Kiara Advani’s ‘Tabahi’ Look Sparks Online Debate Ahead of Toxic Release
The promotional campaign for Toxic has begun gathering momentum, but it is the film’s first song, Tabahi, that has unexpectedly become the center of attention. Rather than discussing the music or visuals alone, social media has been dominated by conversations surrounding Kiara Advani’s glamorous and bold appearance in the romantic track, triggering a wave of mixed reactions online.
While the makers have presented Tabahi as a stylish romantic number featuring Yash and Kiara Advani, a section of netizens felt the visuals were too bold. Some users controversially argued that Kiara should refrain from such scenes after marriage, while others questioned why her husband, Sidharth Malhotra, had not responded to the criticism.
The debate intensified after Sidharth Malhotra shared a photo with Kiara on Instagram. The comments section quickly turned into a discussion about Tabahi, with users divided over whether the criticism directed at the actress was fair or completely unnecessary.
Many social media users highlighted what they saw as a clear double standard. They pointed out that Sidharth Malhotra himself featured in intimate romantic rain sequences with Janhvi Kapoor in Param Sundari, yet he did not receive the same level of scrutiny. According to them, the contrasting reactions expose the different standards often applied to male and female actors.
Another section of users questioned why Yash, who is also married and appears alongside Kiara in Tabahi, has largely escaped criticism. They argued that male stars are often praised for performing romantic or bold scenes, while married actresses are disproportionately targeted for similar on-screen performances.
Several users defended Kiara, stating that actors portray characters based on a film’s creative requirements and that their personal lives or marital status should not determine the roles they choose. Others emphasized that decisions regarding an actor’s career remain entirely personal and should not be judged through the lens of public expectations or societal norms.
Industry observers believe the online controversy has significantly boosted the song’s visibility, giving Toxic additional publicity ahead of its release. While some analysts feel the debate could translate into stronger curiosity and better box-office openings, particularly in North India, they also caution that the film’s long-term success will ultimately depend on its content and audience reception rather than social media discussions alone.
