Jetlee is a Complete Entertainer with Humor, Suspense, and Thrills – Director Ritesh Rana

“Jetlee is a Complete Entertainer with Humor, Suspense, and Thrills – Audiences Will Be Surprised” – Director Ritesh Rana

The popular Tollywood duo, actor Satya and director Ritesh Rana, are gearing up to entertain audiences with their upcoming film Jetty. Produced by Chiranjeevi (Cherry) Hemalatha Pedamallu under the Clap Entertainment banner and presented by Mythri Movie Makers, the film marks the Telugu debut of Miss Universe India Rhea Singha as the female lead. Vennela Kishore and Ajay play key roles.

The teaser and trailer have already generated strong buzz with an impressive response. Jetlee is all set for a grand worldwide theatrical release on May 1. On this occasion, director Ritesh Rana shared interesting insights about the film during a press interaction.

When did the journey of Jetlee begin?
The story was developed during the COVID period in 2020 along with writer Jayendra. We’ve wanted to make this film since then. Finally, we started production last November, and now it’s ready for release.

Was Jetlee initially planned as an intense thriller with a big hero?
Not exactly. We wanted it to be a thriller blended with humor. The entire film takes place inside a flight, which itself is an experiment. Some people questioned whether such an experiment was necessary at this time. Later, I felt Satya would be perfect for the film. After Mathu Vadalara, I had the budget and market scope to execute this idea. We redesigned the character to suit him.

How did Satya react to the story?
Initially, his role was that of a flight attendant. When I later told him he would be the hero, he was shocked. He first felt it was risky. But after I explained my vision in detail, he got very excited. His character has seriousness, humor, and suspense—all in one.

What’s the significance of the title Jetty?
There’s a reference to actor Jet Li, and since the story unfolds on a jet, we felt Jetty would be an interesting and catchy title.

Who is the real hero—Satya or Vennela Kishore?
You’ll have to watch the film to find out! (laughs)

Tell us about the shooting experience?
About 80% of the film takes place inside a flight. We built a massive set with economy class, business class, cargo, and cockpit sections all on one floor. This has been one of the toughest films I’ve worked on. The story unfolds during a journey from Dubai to Kochi, combining action, thrill, and humor into a complete entertainer.

What about Vennela Kishore’s role?
He plays a very unique character. Throughout the film, he is seen solving Sudoku puzzles and writing movie titles based on situations. It’s a very quirky and entertaining role.

Tell us about Rhea Singha’s character?
This is her debut Telugu film, and she plays a very interesting role as a special agent. She has performed very well.

What is Ajay’s role in the film?
Ajay plays a character named Prajapati, who is on the run after committing a bank scam. Bringing him back becomes a key element of the story.

How is your equation with Satya?
We actually have a “non-sync,” and that’s what creates our perfect sync! (laughs) We’re very different, and that contrast works in our favor.

About producer Cherry?
With him, I share perfect sync. He always supports my experiments. Even when I switched from a planned big hero to Satya, he trusted me completely.

How is the music by Kaala Bhairava?
My technical team has been with me since my first film. There’s one song, along with impactful background score and bit songs. The film’s runtime is around 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Who influences your comedy style?
I’m influenced by many. I love Crazy Mohan’s style of comedy. I also enjoy satire and sarcasm, along with Hollywood comedy.

Is there any reference to Chiranjeevi in the film?
Yes, the film begins with a frame featuring Chiranjeevi. I usually include such references in my films, and this one continues that trend.

Your promotions are quite unique, right?
Promotions are very important these days. I plan them during the shooting stage itself, and I’ve done the same for this film.

Any challenging sequences?
There are two major sequences in the film. The CGI work for them took about four months. We shot those sequences first and used the remaining time for post-production. They’ve come out very stylishly.

Is there scope for a sequel?
There are many interesting characters in the film. If it works well, there’s definitely scope for a sequel.

What is your favorite genre?
I love the horror genre the most. My next film will likely be a horror project, possibly with newcomers.
