In Junior, I played a very different character unlike anything I’ve done before – Genelia

“In Junior, I played a very different character unlike anything I’ve done before. The film will surely entertain everyone” – Genelia

Prominent political leader and businessman Gali Janardhan Reddy’s son Kireeti Reddy is making his debut as a hero with the youth entertainer Junior, directed by Radhakrishna. The film stars Sreeleela as the female lead, with Genelia in a key role. Produced by Rajani Korrapati under the Vaaraahi Chalana Chitram banner, the film’s songs have become chartbusters, and the teaser and trailer received a tremendous response. Star cinematographer K.K. Senthil Kumar handled the cinematography. The film is slated for a July 18 release. On this occasion, Genelia spoke to the media and shared her experience.

After nearly 13 years, you’re back in a South film. What element in Junior attracted you?

This project came to me three years ago, but I hadn’t decided whether to do it. Ritesh (Deshmukh) spoke very positively about the story and urged me to listen to it once. I really liked the way the director narrated the story and my character in it.

I’ve always chosen roles that are different from anything I’ve done before. In this film, my character is very special—something I’ve never played before. That’s why I was convinced I had to do this film.

This movie is an amazing package. Working with people like Devi Sri Prasad and Senthil Kumar felt like a reunion.

Your character looked very serious in the trailer. Can you tell us about it?

Rather than calling it “serious,” I’d say it’s a strong “boss lady” kind of role. As the film progresses, there are many transitions in the character. The director has handled all these changes very uniquely.

Your thoughts on Kireeti?

I’ve worked with many newcomers, but Kireeti is a very confident actor. He’s an excellent dancer and delivered a wonderful performance. He worked very hard and gave it his all.

How was it working with Senthil Kumar again?

We worked together on Sye. He has since done phenomenal films like Baahubali and RRR. It felt great to work with him again after so many years.

You took a break from films during the peak of your career. Any regrets?

Not at all. Life is a mix of everything. I’ve done several memorable films. Bommarillu‘s Hasini is an unforgettable character. Even today, people refer to me by my character names like Madhumathi from Happy, or my role in Katha. That gives me immense joy as an actor.

Will you continue acting?

Definitely. If good roles come my way, I’m ready. Even if it’s a small role, I prefer doing something memorable.

What can audiences expect from your role in Junior?

I’ve played a character I’ve never done before. I’m excited to see how audiences receive it. I’m looking forward to July 18!

Do you have any dream roles?

Honestly, entering this industry, playing various roles, and receiving so much love from audiences feels like a dream in itself. I don’t think I have any bigger dream than this.

What do you think about Sreeleela?

She’s an amazing dancer and a fabulous performer. She’s full of energy.

Your opinion on Devi Sri Prasad’s music?

DSP is a brilliant composer. Having him in a film is a blessing. He brings immense positivity and energy to every project. The song Viral Vayyari from this film has become a superhit. Even Ritesh loves that song.

About producer Sai?

It was Sai Garu who first discussed this project with me. He supported me a lot and took great care. He didn’t compromise anywhere and made the film on a grand scale.

You acted alongside a legend like Kota Srinivasa Rao in Bommarillu. Any memories?

Acting with a stalwart like Kota Srinivasa Rao Garu was my privilege. I learned a lot from him. His loss is an irreplaceable one for the film industry.

Your co-stars like Ram Charan, NTR, and Allu Arjun are now doing massive pan-India films. How does that feel?

All of them are my friends. They’re all incredibly talented. Seeing them now as pan-India superstars makes me truly happy.

Any plans to work with Ritesh again?

We did the remake of Majili, which was a great success. If another beautiful love story comes along, I would love to work with him again.
