“Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi is a strong emotional action film that everyone will connect with. It will definitely be liked by all,” says director Pradeep Chilukuri
Nandamuri Kalyan Ram’s most awaited movie Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi features Vijayashanti in a powerful role. The dynamics between the two lead characters will be a key highlight in this action-packed family entertainer. Directed by Pradeep Chilukuri, the film is produced by Ashok Vardhan Muppa and Sunil Balusu under the banners Ashoka Creations and NTR Arts. The promotional content has created a huge buzz. The teaser, trailer, and songs from Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi have received a tremendous response. The movie is set for a grand worldwide theatrical release on April 18. On this occasion, director Pradeep Chilukuri shared key insights about the film during a media interaction.
How did the idea for Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi originate? How did you approach Kalyan Ram?
The producers wanted to do a film with Kalyan Ram garu. At that time, he had already done experimental films like Devil and Amigos. We initially decided to make a mass film. I developed a massy hero character and later thought of including a powerful mother character. We felt a character like Vyjayanthi would be perfect. We first pitched it to the hero, and he agreed, but said we should only proceed if Vijayashanti garu agreed. When we narrated the story to her, she felt very happy. She suggested a few small changes, and once we incorporated them, we went on sets.
What is the main conflict in the story?
The conflict arises from the ideological differences between the hero and the mother. Both believe they are right in their own ways. These two powerful characters are the core of the film.
Vijayashanti garu performed the action sequences amazingly. She agreed to do the fights right from the narration stage.
Why was there such a long gap after your film Raja Cheyyi Vesthe?
A few scripts got approved. I was even paid advances for a big hero film, but it didn’t materialize for various reasons. I also worked for three years on a story for UV Creations, which I plan to make next. Similarly, I spent over a year developing a script under Anil Sunkara’s banner. All these are big-scale films.
There’s a lot of talk about the film’s climax. What can we expect?
The audience will see how much one can sacrifice for their mother. It’s going to be very emotional.
How’s the film’s business?
It’s doing very well. The producers are extremely happy, and the buzz around the film is very strong.
NTR garu said, “Kalyan anna will blow everyone away.” How did that confidence come?
NTR garu watched the film and gained that confidence after seeing it.
What’s Sai Manjrekar’s role like?
Since this is an emotional action film, her role is like a cool breeze in a serious environment. It has its own importance.
How many fights are in the film? How were they designed?
Vijayashanti garu’s first action sequence was choreographed by Prithvi Master. Ramakrishna Master handled the interval and climax fights. Peter Hein did the hero’s intro and climax fights. Raghubabu Master choreographed two villain sequences. All the action scenes are brilliantly executed.
After Vijayashanti garu accepted the role, did you feel extra responsibility or fear?
No fear at all. We approached it with full confidence. In fact, I was the one who troubled her the most. There’s a forest sequence where she had to stay in the mud for two hours. She didn’t move until the shot was done. Afterward, when she went to the caravan, she had a high fever and was shivering. Yet, she didn’t complain or move from the location until the scene was completed. Her dedication and seniority greatly helped the film. I got goosebumps after watching her performance. Kalyan Ram garu matched her with equally powerful acting.
How was the producers’ support?
They supported the project wholeheartedly, never compromising at any stage. They gave their full backing in every aspect.
What about Ajaneesh’s music?
Two songs are excellent. The background score is on another level. Each character—Kalyan Ram, Vijayashanti, the villain—has been given a unique soundtrack.
What’s Kalyan Ram garu’s strength?
His strength is emotion. He portrays it powerfully on screen.
What is the core emotion of the story?
Our parents celebrate our birthdays with joy. But celebrating their birthdays is an emotion we often overlook. That’s the core message I wanted to convey in this story.
What can fans of Kalyan Ram and NTR expect from this film?
A film filled with intense emotions. Fans can expect a heart-touching experience.
What’s your strength as a filmmaker?
Emotion is my strength. Even my upcoming films will be emotionally driven.
