Sardar 2 Will Be Ten Times More Impactful: Karthi

‘Sardar 2’ Will Be Ten Times More Impactful: Karthi

‘Sardar 2’ Will Have Ten Times More Impact Than ‘Sardar’; The Action Will Be Mind-Blowing: Karthi

Actor Karthi is gearing up for the highly anticipated sequel ‘Sardar 2’, following the blockbuster success of Sardar in both Tamil and Telugu. Presented to Telugu audiences by Annapurna Studios, the film is directed by P.S. Mithran and produced by S. Lakshman Kumar under the Prince Pictures banner.

The teaser and trailer have already generated considerable buzz, promising a larger scale, intense action and an intriguing spy narrative. Sardar 2 is set to release worldwide on September 10.

Ahead of the release, Karthi interacted with the media and shared several interesting details about the film, his character, the action sequences, the heroines, his association with Annapurna Studios and his upcoming projects.

‘Sardar 2’ has a much more impactful concept

Speaking about the sequel and what audiences can expect, Karthi said, “Spy films are very rare in India, and making them is not easy. When we think of spies, we often imagine heroes like Tom Cruise. But when P.S. Mithran narrated Sardar, he described the protagonist as a spy wearing a lungi. I immediately connected with the idea.”

He added, “There have been real-life spies like Ravindra Kaushik, a theatre actor who eventually became a military officer in Pakistan. We all know stories like that. Spies often live among us like ordinary people without revealing who they really are. I really liked the way Mithran incorporated such elements into the story.”

According to Karthi, the water-based concept in Sardar was one of its biggest strengths.

“Water is life. Throughout history, during wars and conflicts between countries, cutting off water supplies has been used as a strategy. When Mithran explained the water-related concept in Sardar, it felt very fresh. Audiences connected strongly with it,” he said.

Drawing a comparison between the two films, Karthi revealed, “The concept of Sardar 2 will create ten times more impact than the water concept in Sardar. The film has been made on a much larger scale. Telugu audiences showed tremendous love for Sardar, even more than the Tamil audience in some aspects. I am confident they will connect strongly with Sardar 2 as well.”

‘Sardar 2’ explores a different kind of spy story

Karthi explained that unlike many spy thrillers, Sardar 2 focuses on a problem within India.

“Spy films usually involve operations that take place outside the country. In Durandhar, for example, the protagonist goes outside India for an operation. But Sardar 2 is about how a spy handles a major problem that is happening within India. That makes the story very interesting,” he said.

He further added, “Spies generally don’t have a normal family life, and they don’t receive recognition for the sacrifices they make because nobody can know about their work. That emotional aspect is also explored in the film.”

“The action sequences will be mind-blowing”

Karthi revealed that the film has been mounted on a grand scale, with action playing a major role.

“We have made Sardar 2 on a very large scale. There are fantastic action blocks from the beginning to the end. The flashback and climax action sequences will be mind-blowing,” he said.

He added that the film aims to showcase that South Indian cinema can deliver high-quality spy action on a global scale.

“Conceptually and visually, Sardar 2 will be made to a very high standard. It will show that we can make a film of this scale in the South as well,” Karthi stated.

Since Sardar 2 is a sequel, Karthi also urged audiences who haven’t watched the first part to catch up before heading to theatres.

“Those who haven’t watched Sardar should watch it before seeing the sequel. The film is available for free on YouTube. Even those who have already watched it can rewatch it because it will help them connect even better with Sardar 2,” he said.

Playing the father and son was a challenge

Karthi revealed that portraying both the father and son characters presented a unique challenge.

“The father and son characters travel together in this film. Playing both characters simultaneously was very challenging. The makeup process also required a lot of patience,” he said.

Speaking about the action, he added, “I love action, but there was a different challenge in this film. I had to fight like an old man. The character may be old, but he is extremely skilled. As a spy, he has several techniques and can use different methods during a fight. I really enjoyed performing those sequences.”

Strong and intelligent female characters

Karthi revealed that the film features three female leads and said their characters are significantly different from conventional roles.

“Aashika Ranganath and Malavika Mohanan bring very new dimensions to their characters. They are intelligent and different from the usual female roles we see. The film shows how strong women can be and how they can fight for the country,” he said.

“S.J. Suryah’s character will surprise audiences”

Karthi also spoke highly of S.J. Suryah, who plays the antagonist.

“S.J. Suryah’s character is going to be very different. Audiences will really enjoy it. He himself said that whatever he felt was missing in Spyder has worked out well in this film. He has also dubbed his character himself,” Karthi revealed.

A high-value production

The actor highlighted the film’s massive production values, revealing that the team recreated an entire Vande Bharat train set for the movie.

“This is a film with very high production values. We built an entire Vande Bharat train set for the film. No one had attempted something like this before. The producers spent a lot of money and never compromised anywhere. The film has been made on a very big scale to entertain the audience,” he said.

A memorable moment from ‘Sardar’

Recalling a memorable experience after the release of Sardar, Karthi said, “After Sardar was released, I went somewhere for a shoot. Three young boys followed my car and shouted, ‘We won’t allow water bottle plants.’ I felt extremely happy at that moment. It was wonderful to see that the film had reached even children and made such an impact on them.”

“I feel more confident when Nagarjuna is involved”

Karthi expressed his happiness over Annapurna Studios bringing Sardar 2 to Telugu audiences.

“When there is a good film, I feel confident. When Nagarjuna Anna is involved, I feel even more confident. We share a very good relationship. Whenever he speaks about me, he always refers to me as his younger brother. They understand what the film needs and execute everything wonderfully,” he said.

Sardar was also released through Annapurna Studios, and I am very happy that Sardar 2 is also being released through them,” Karthi added.

“P.S. Mithran has evolved tremendously”

Karthi praised director P.S. Mithran for his vision and growth as a filmmaker.

“Mithran is a director with tremendous skill. He knows how to design concepts that appeal to audiences. Compared to the time of Sardar 1, he has evolved tremendously as a filmmaker. There is a lot more maturity in his work now,” he said.

On his upcoming projects

Karthi also opened up about his upcoming films.

“I am working on HIT 4 with Sailesh Kolanu. I am also doing a very good entertainer with Kalyan Shankar. It is a fun film, and it has been a long time since I did something like that. Marshal has completed around 50 percent of its shoot,” he revealed.

On working with Suriya

Fans have long been waiting to see brothers Karthi and Suriya share the screen in a full-fledged film. Responding to the possibility, Karthi said, “We also want to do a film together. But the right story and director have to come together. We are also waiting for such a story.”
