Netflix’s First Telugu Original Series ‘Super Subbu’ Premieres July 2
Get ready to enter the quirky and chaotic world of Maakipur, where one innocent question can become the biggest topic of discussion before the school bell even rings. Created and directed by Mallik Ram, Netflix’s first-ever Telugu Original Series, Super Subbu, is set to premiere globally on July 2.
Starring Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar, Murali Sharma, Brahmanandam, Get Up Srinu, Maanasa Choudhary, and Jeevan, the comedy-drama promises a refreshing blend of humor, heart, and socially relevant conversations.
At the center of the story is Subramanyam Chillukuri Rao, fondly known as Subbu, an earnest and well-meaning young man whose life takes an unexpected turn when he is appointed as a sex education officer in the village of Maakipur. Armed with little experience but plenty of sincerity, Subbu embarks on a mission to educate the villagers, only to find himself caught in a whirlwind of curiosity, misunderstandings, and hilarious situations.
What begins as a temporary assignment soon evolves into a transformative journey of self-discovery. As Subbu navigates the challenges of his unconventional role, he is forced to confront difficult questions about love, family, ambition, and personal identity. Will he be willing to risk everything he holds dear to stay true to his purpose?
Speaking about the series, Monika Shergill, Vice President – Content, Netflix India, said, “Super Subbu is a delightful comedy with heart, brought to life by endearing characters and the vibrant world of Maakipur. Through a refreshing and humorous narrative, director Mallik Ram opens up conversations around topics such as sex education and consent, grounding them in authentic and hilarious experiences. Led by Sundeep Kishan alongside Mithila Palkar, Murali Sharma, Maanasa Choudhary, and the legendary Brahmanandam, the ensemble cast delivers memorable performances. As our first Telugu Original Series, Super Subbu brings together everything we look for in a great story—a unique local voice, universally relatable themes, warmth, and plenty of laughter.”
Creator and director Mallik Ram shared his vision behind the project, saying, “With Super Subbu, we wanted to tell a story that is entertaining, heartfelt, and capable of making conversations around topics like sex education feel less taboo. Humor became the perfect medium because laughter instantly breaks discomfort. At its core, the series follows an innocent and relatable character trying to find his place in the world. Beyond the comedy, it also explores family relationships, generational differences, and emotional connections. Having such a talented cast from different generations brought immense charm and authenticity to Maakipur, and we can’t wait for audiences worldwide to experience this unique village on Netflix.”
Written by Mallik Ram, Ramesh Eligeti, and Shivani Dhobal, and produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under Chilaka Productions, Super Subbu combines comedy, emotion, and meaningful storytelling in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Filled with memorable characters, laugh-out-loud moments, and heartfelt life lessons, Super Subbu is all set to take viewers on an unforgettable ride when it premieres exclusively on Netflix on July 2.
