Vijay Deverakonda & Rashmika Mandanna Exude Regal Intensity ‘Ranabaali’
The anticipation for Rahul Sankrityan’s upcoming historical magnum opus, Ranabaali, has reached a fever pitch. Striking a chord of rustic grandeur and raw emotion, the makers recently unveiled a special surprise look that has set social media ablaze.
The image features the lead pair, Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, looking profoundly stripped of modern glamour, opting instead for a deeply grounded, intense, 19th-century aesthetic.
A Royal but Haunted First Look
In this striking preview, Vijay Deverakonda sheds his contemporary “rowdy” persona for the rugged stance of a fierce freedom fighter. Sporting a thick handlebar mustache, a traditional forehead mark (tilak), and a bare torso draped in a rust-and-gold uttariya (shoulder cloth) over a traditional cream dhoti, he exudes a grounded, warrior-like intensity.
Seated beside him is Rashmika Mandanna, embodying her character Jayamma. Draped in a classic checkered silk saree with heavy, traditional gold necklaces and a maang tikka, her expression is a masterful blend of defiance and vulnerability. Both actors sport feet stained with traditional alta (red dye), sitting against a stark, textured backdrop with earthen and brass pottery, anchoring the film firmly in its historic roots.
Why ‘Ranabaali’ is Major News
This project isn’t just another historical drama—it carries massive emotional and cinematic weight for Indian cinema:
-
First Film Post-Marriage: This marks the very first time Vijay and Rashmika will share screen space since their real-life wedding in Udaipur on February 26.
-
The Powerhouse Reunion: This is their third collaboration overall, following the massive box-office blockbusters Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.
-
A Massive Canvas: Set in colonial India between 1854 and 1878, the plot deals with the economic plunder and intense human cost of British rule. Vijay plays a legendary hero rising against this immense oppression.
-
International Antagonist: Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo (famed for The Mummy) plays the cruel primary antagonist, Sir Theodore Hector.
