‘Rai Rai Raara’ for Peddi Is My Fortune: Anantha Sriram

Writing a Powerful Song Like “Rai Rai Raara” for a Massive Film Like Peddi Is My Fortune: Lyricist Anantha Sriram The second single “Rai Rai Raara” from Mega Power Star Ram Charan’s massive mass extravaganza Peddi has become a nationwide sensation. The song is currently trending at No.1 with record-breaking views. Ram Charan’s grace, charisma, and electrifying dance moves have captivated audiences everywhere.

The song has turned into a viral hit thanks to director Buchi Babu Sana’s spectacular picturization, music by legendary composer A. R. Rahman, powerful lyrics by Anantha Sriram, and energetic choreography by Jani Master.

Produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under the Vriddhi Cinemas banner, the film is set for a grand worldwide release on April 30. Speaking at a press meet, lyricist Anantha Sriram shared interesting insights about the making of the song.

“I’m thrilled that audiences are discussing the lyrics”
Speaking about the overwhelming response to the song, Anantha Sriram said:

“Amid Ram Charan’s powerful Rudra Tandavam performance, Rahman sir’s thunderous composition, and the magical visuals by cinematographer Rathnavelu, I’m extremely happy that audiences are still talking about the lyrics. Hearing people say ‘listen to this line’ or ‘that line is brilliant’ gives me immense joy. I feel fortunate that this song earned such appreciation.”

“Months of discussions went into shaping this song”
He revealed that the song is neither a typical love song nor an item number.

“Even though it doesn’t fall into those categories, people are discussing the lines because director Buchi Babu Sana wanted meaningful lyrics. He gives great importance to writing. We spent a lot of time discussing what kind of lyrics this song should have. Many nights were spent driving on the Ring Road and sitting in coffee shops discussing ideas. This song is the result of months of intense brainstorming.”

The lyricist added that the song was designed to entertain the masses while also delivering a strong message that resonates across generations.

“A philosophical song in simple language”
Initially, several versions of the song were explored.

“Finally, we decided that it should be a motivational and philosophical song. At the same time, the language had to remain simple and relatable so that common people could connect with it. The message had to be deep but expressed in everyday language.”

He said the lyrics were written in a style similar to a conversation between friends, making it more relatable.

“The song is meant to be a youth anthem”
Director Buchi Babu Sana envisioned the song as an anthem for today’s youth.

“That idea worked like a mantra for me. I felt the song should have the spirit of legendary poet Sri Sri’s lyrical style. So I wrote ‘Rai Rai Raara’ like a poetic anthem filled with emotional rhythm and powerful rhymes, similar to the excitement you feel when reading Sri Sri’s poetry.”

Even without music, the lyricist believes the words read like a powerful poem.

Inspiration behind the title “Rai Rai Raara”
Anantha Sriram revealed an interesting inspiration behind the phrase “Rai Rai Raara.”

“In villages, the most common mode of transport is the RTC bus. When the conductor shouts ‘Rai Rai,’ the bus starts moving forward. That sound inspired the idea that life too should keep moving forward. I wanted the song to carry that motivational spirit.”

Many listeners have especially connected with lines encouraging youth not to lose their passion early in life.

“This success belongs to the entire team”
The lyricist credited the entire team for the song’s success.

“Johnny Master’s choreography, Rathnavelu’s visuals, Ram Charan’s charisma and grace, Rahman sir’s music and vocals — everything competed with each other in excellence. This achievement belongs to everyone. But if I have to give special credit, it goes to director Buchi Babu Sana who guided us all, and Ram Charan who gave him complete creative freedom.”

Ram Charan’s reaction to the song
Anantha Sriram shared a memorable moment:

“Ram Charan garu gave us complete freedom. I played the song for him on the shooting location. After listening to it, he came forward and hugged me. That moment meant a lot to me.”

“Explaining philosophy in mass language was challenging”
The lyricist admitted that writing the song was quite challenging.

“Writing a good song or a mass song is not difficult. But expressing philosophy in the language of the masses is like walking on a razor’s edge. Rahman sir’s compositions are always unique and experimental. It took me a lot of time to understand the rhythm and structure. The song took nearly two months to complete.”

“A song that can inspire life itself”
Talking about the satisfaction he gained from the song, he said:

“I always say my writing will truly feel meaningful if my song can stop someone from taking a drastic step like suicide. I feel this song carries that kind of motivational energy.”

More songs in the film
Anantha Sriram revealed that three more songs written by him will appear in the film, each with a distinct style.

Reflecting on 20 years in the industry
Having completed nearly two decades in the film industry, he shared his thoughts:

“In my 20-year journey, I realized three things — getting an opportunity is difficult, achieving the first success is even harder, and sustaining success is the toughest of all. If I manage to deliver a chartbuster every year, it is because of the strong foundation laid by my parents and my constant effort to reinvent myself.”

He added that while likes, shares, and views may change as success metrics, consistency remains the true measure of longevity.

Acting and association with the Mega family
Anantha Sriram also spoke about occasionally appearing in films.
“Acting wasn’t something I planned, but I’m not against it either. Sometimes directors like the expressions I give while narrating lyrics and feel I might suit a character, so I do it for fun.”

Talking about his association with the Mega family, he said his first major credit came in Andarivaadu, starring Chiranjeevi.

“Working with the same hero is a blessing. Writing great songs for the second generation hero like Ram Charan is an even bigger fortune. Having hits with both father and son in the same year is truly special.”

He added warmly:
“Chiranjeevi garu shares affection like a father, while Ram Charan treats me like a brother. Both of them genuinely love people. Ram Charan is someone who works tirelessly every minute — truly an Iron Man born with a golden spoon.”

Upcoming projects
Anantha Sriram revealed he is currently writing songs for upcoming films including Spirit and Chennai Love Story, promising that audiences can expect some wonderful songs.
