Kalyan Chakravarthy Returns After 35 Years for Champion

Kalyan Chakravarthy Returns After 35 Years for Champion

Swapna Cinemas continues its tradition of championing fresh, compelling storytelling by backing unique scripts, assembling visionary creative teams, and making bold casting choices. Their latest production, Champion—a period sports drama presented by Zee Studios—is produced in collaboration with Anandi Art Creations and Concept Films. The film serves as a major relaunch for young actor Roshan, while Malayalam talent Anaswara Rajan makes her Telugu debut. National Award–winning filmmaker Pradeep Advaitham directs this ambitious project.

In a striking development, the team has announced the comeback of Nandamuri Kalyan Chakravarthy, a familiar face from the 80s who stepped away from films after his noteworthy appearance in Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Lankeswarudu. After a massive 35-year hiatus, he is finally returning to cinema. Swapna Cinemas had previously approached him during Yevade Subrahmanyam, but the actor repeatedly declined. It was the depth and emotional power of his role in Champion that ultimately convinced him to make a grand return.

Kalyan Chakravarthy will portray Raji Reddy, a character rooted in realism and integral to the film’s core drama. His performance is expected to bring emotional weight and a powerful presence to the narrative.

The first-look poster reveals him in a rugged, intense avatar—greyed hair, a stoic expression, and a matured, seasoned appearance—all set against an energetic celebratory backdrop, hinting at a crucial turning point in the storyline.

Musical promotions for Champion kicked off recently with the release of the first single, “Gira Gira Gingiraagirey”, composed by Mickey J Meyer. Sung vibrantly by Ram Miriyala, the track has instantly connected with listeners. Additionally, the refreshing pairing of Roshan and Anaswara Rajan has won hearts with their youthful charm and sparkling chemistry.

With the song and the earlier released glimpse receiving highly positive responses, expectations for the next promotional phase are steadily rising.

On the technical front, veteran production designer Thota Tharani brings the pre-Independence era to life with remarkable authenticity, while acclaimed cinematographer R. Madhie enhances the narrative through rich visuals and dramatic colour tones. The film is edited by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.

Champion is gearing up for a grand theatrical release this Christmas, December 25th.
