“I’ve Never Received This Much Recognition Before ‘KINGDOM’ Changed That”— Actor Satya Dev
Starring Vijay Deverakonda in the lead, Kingdom is a gripping gangster drama helmed by acclaimed director Gowtam Tinnanuri. Featuring standout performances from Satya Dev, Bhagyashree Borse, and Venkatesh, the film is produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, presented by Srikara Studios, and bankrolled by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya. Anirudh Ravichander’s powerful music adds emotional depth to the narrative.
Released on July 31, Kingdom has taken the box office by storm, earning both critical acclaim and commercial success. Centered around the emotional bond between two brothers, the film has struck a chord with audiences for its layered storytelling, emotionally-charged action sequences, and striking visual aesthetics.
As the film continues to draw in praise, Satya Dev—who delivered a career-defining performance as Shiva—opened up about the film’s impact, his preparation, and what the role means to him.
How has the response been for your role as Shiva in Kingdom?
“I’ve never experienced this kind of love in my entire career. From the first show, my phone hasn’t stopped buzzing with messages and calls. It’s incredibly heartening. When Gowtam narrated the script, I was instantly hooked. I didn’t even hesitate before saying yes.”
“My earlier film Bluff Master gave me recognition, but it took time. With Kingdom, everything changed overnight—thanks to the film’s scale and Vijay’s massive fan base. The response has been instant and overwhelming. I’m genuinely grateful.”
How did the role come your way?
“Interestingly, Gowtam had originally envisioned me for the role of Shiva. But due to delays, the team explored other options. Just days before the shoot began, he reached out again and narrated the script.”
“I was so moved by the writing that I immediately said yes. Later, Gowtam told me, ‘I’m glad the actor I first imagined is the one actually playing Shiva.’ That meant a lot. It felt like this role was written in my destiny.”
Your action scenes have earned strong praise. What’s your take?
“I believe action only works when it’s grounded in emotion. Kingdom does exactly that. Every fight, every blow is loaded with emotional intensity. That’s why audiences are resonating with it.”
Was there a particularly challenging scene?
“Yes—there’s a scene in jail where Shiva talks to his younger brother after uncovering the truth. Shiva loves him deeply but hides it out of fear that his brother might stay back. That silent conflict was emotionally draining to portray.”
“Physically, the pre-climax fight was the most demanding. But seeing the audience response makes it all worthwhile.”

Tell us about the now-iconic boat sequence.
“That was one of the most difficult parts of the shoot! I didn’t know how to operate a boat, yet Vijay had to sit in it while I navigated through strong currents. At first, it was chaos—I’d steer right, it would go left. We had near-accidents; once we rammed into branches, another time we almost crashed.”
“But after a lot of practice, we nailed it. The final output looks fantastic on screen.”
How was it working with Venkatesh, who played Murugan?
“Venkatesh did a phenomenal job. During shooting itself, we knew he was delivering something special. Now the audience is echoing the same sentiment. For a newcomer to make such an impact—it’s impressive.”
Your thoughts on Vijay Deverakonda?
“I hadn’t met Vijay before the film, but we hit it off instantly. He’s incredibly grounded and a wonderful human being. We developed a genuine brotherly bond during the shoot.”
“Vijay is also a brilliant actor. He feels every line and performs with emotional depth. I was blown away by his dedication and the honesty in his craft.”
Working with producer Suryadevara Naga Vamsi?
“Vamsi garu is a fearless producer. When he believes in a story, he goes all in—no compromises. That’s why Sithara Entertainments has become a powerhouse. I really admire his conviction and passion.”
Why do you think audiences connected so deeply with Shiva?
“Performance alone doesn’t make a character memorable—writing does. Shiva was written with so many emotional layers, and Gowtam brought out every nuance beautifully. That’s why people connected with him.”
What’s the most touching compliment you’ve received?
“There have been so many, but hearing from fellow actors and respected veterans in the industry—who took time out to personally appreciate my performance—that really moved me. It’s very fulfilling.”
What’s next for you?
“I have a web series titled Arabian Kadali releasing on Amazon Prime on August 8. My film Full Bottle is ready for release. I’m also working on projects with directors Venkatesh Maha and Ajay Nag (Arambham). Alongside these, I have two more films in the pipeline.”
