Actor Kiran Abbavaram, who garnered more respect than commercial success with Ka, is back with his latest film, Dilruba. Directed by debutant Vishwa Karun, the movie faced multiple delays, but thanks to its hit songs and viral promotional content, expectations remained high. Let’s see if the film delivers on its promise!

Story:

Sidhu (Kiran Abbavaram) faces a tragic day when he loses both his beloved father and childhood love, Meghana (Kathy Dawinson). Devastated, he distances himself from forming new bonds and enrolls in an engineering college in Mangalore, where he meets Anjali (Ruksar). Just when it seems like Anjali might bring a change in his life, she, too, leaves him.

Why does everyone seem to walk away from Sidhu? Is it his character, attitude, or something else? The answers unravel as the story progresses.

Performances:

Kiran Abbavaram brings out his mass appeal well, experimenting with new styling and body language. His costume choices enhance his screen presence, though his performance carries shades of a Puri Jagannadh-style hero. Nevertheless, he connects well with the youth audience.

Ruksar shines with her energetic portrayal of Anjali, though her lip-sync falters in some places. Despite this, her performance adds positive value to the film. Kathy Dawinson tries to leave an impression in a crucial role, but her character lacks proper development. Meanwhile, actors like Satya and John Vijay feel underutilized. Kranthi Killi, as the stylish antagonist, makes an attempt to entertain.

Technical Aspects:

The film’s biggest strength lies in Sam CS’s music, with an impressive background score elevating key moments. The KCPD song and the interval fight sequence stand out, adding an adrenaline rush. Cinematographer Daniel Vishwas deserves appreciation for his meticulous attention to frame composition and color schemes, which enhance the visual experience.

The action sequences, especially the interval fight, cater to mass audiences. However, the editing could have been sharper—college sequences drag unnecessarily, and the climax fight could have been more engaging with better pacing.

Director Vishwa Karun’s heavy influence from Puri Jagannadh is evident, particularly in the protagonist’s characterization. While the concept of an ex-lover re-entering a man’s life to help with his current love story had potential, the execution fell short. Emotional depth and scene staging were not handled effectively, resulting in moments that lacked impact.

Verdict:

Love stories thrive on emotional connection, but Dilruba struggles to establish that bond with the audience. While the fight sequences are well-executed, the emotional weight behind them feels lacking. Additionally, the attempt to redefine villainy in the film does not quite hit the mark.

Overall, Dilruba is a one-time watch, especially for youth and college audiences looking for a mix of romance and action.
