Hyderabad JRC Convention Center in Jubilee Hills was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the 69th SOBHA Filmfare Awards South 2024, presented by Kamar Film Factory. The prestigious event celebrated the best of South Indian cinema, bringing together luminaries from the Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam film industries for a magical night of glamour and recognition.
Nani received the Best Actor in Telugu
The evening was a dazzling showcase of talent, with stars from across the four industries gracing the red carpet and attending the awards ceremony. The event honoured exceptional achievements in various categories, highlighting the diverse and vibrant nature of South Indian cinema.
Nani and Vikram emerged as the standout winners in the acting categories. Nani received the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) award for his powerful portrayal in Dasara, a film that has resonated deeply with audiences. Vikram was equally celebrated, winning the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) award for his compelling performance in Ponniyin Selvan – Part 2. Both actors were praised for their remarkable contributions to their respective films, which showcased their exceptional range and depth as performers.
Rakshit Shetty received Best Actor in Kannada
His portrayal was lauded for its emotional intensity and complexity, earning him widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences. Meanwhile, Mammootty made headlines with his win in the Malayalam category, receiving the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) award for Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. This award marked Mammootty’s 15th Filmfare win, underscoring his enduring legacy and impact on Malayalam cinema.
A particularly emotional moment of the evening was Shweta Mohan’s acceptance of her first Filmfare award for Best Playback Singer (Female) – Telugu. She was joined on stage by her mother, Sujata Mohan, who presented the award, marking a significant milestone for the Mohan family. This achievement made Shweta the fifth member of her family to receive the prestigious Filmfare trophy, adding to their longstanding contributions to the music industry.
Keerthy Suresh Received Best Actress in Telugu
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Srinath, known affectionately as Pranay Raja. Srinath’s illustrious career spans over 57 years and includes more than 300 films. His iconic roles in romantic films during the 70s earned him the title of ‘Pranay Raja,’ a moniker that reflects his significant influence and popularity in South Indian cinema. The award celebrated Srinath’s extraordinary career and his lasting impact on the industry.
The event also paid tribute to the late Ramoji Rao, a visionary who profoundly shaped Indian cinema. Rao’s contributions provided a platform for countless film makers, actors, and technicians, and his legacy was honoured with heartfelt reverence during the ceremony.
The evening’s entertainment was boosted by energetic dance performances from Raashii Khanna, Aparna Balamurali, Saniya Iyappan, and Gayatri Bhardwaj. Their performances added a dynamic element to the event, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
Balagam was awarded Best Film In Telugu
In Telugu cinema, Balagam was awarded Best Film, reflecting its critical success and widespread acclaim. Prakash Raj was recognized as Best Actor (Male) Critics for his role in Ranga Marthanda, while Vaishnavi Chaitanya won the Best Actor (Female) Critics award for her performance in Baby. The Best Director award went to Venu Yeldandi for his work on Balagam, further underscoring the film’s impressive achievements.
Tamil cinema saw Chithha take home the award for Best Film, with S U Arun Kumar receiving the Best Director accolade for the same film. Siddharth Suryanarayan was honoured with the Best Actor (Male) Critics award for his role in Chithha. Aishwarya Rajesh and Aparna Das also received accolades for their performances in Farhana and Dada, respectively.
In Malayalam cinema, Jyotika won the Best Actor (Female) Critics award for her role in Kaathal The Core, while Joju George earned the Best Actor (Male) Critics award for Iratta. The film 2018 was named Best Film, and Jude Anthany Joseph received the Best Director award for the same film.
