Story: Satya is an ACP, who works in She team, directly fights for women who calls her for help. She is a sincere officer who keeps aside her personal life for the sake of wellbeing of the citizens who trusted her. On her wedding day, she receives a complaint from a girl who’s facing physical abuse from her boyfriend. Although, she first tries to go by the protocol of calling the girl’s father and talk to resolve the problem, after observing her injuries, Satya decides to warn her boyfriend to stay away from the girl, she challenges him igniting his ego and he hunts down the girl in a drug induced rage and kills the girl infront of Satya. Satya is deeply scarred from this disturbing her personal and professional life, obsessed with the case. Did Satya solve the case? What happened to the family of that girl? Is what forms the rest of the movie.
Kajal Aggarwal changed her entire bubbly, sweet girl image to a tough police officer image successfully in Satyabhama. We would be wanting more of her fight scenes as she reinvented herself in this action flick. Her fighting and strong action scenes are a pleasure to watch. It’s no wonder we can’t imagine anyone else in her place. Kajal and the story are the two strong pillars for Satyabhama. Audience would want more of such action sequences from Kajal in this movie.
Music by SriCharan Pakala, as expected from his previous movies just dominated at times and elevated the scenes. He is irreplaceable for Satyabhama. He didn’t really go by the music thinking from a feminine point but the story and which suits the entire scene, this is really appreciable, as music directors seem to tend to use the same regular music when a woman fights in the movie. But his entire approach is different and welcoming. Especially the BGM specific for Kajal is unique and pulsative.
Story is the strong asset for Satyabhama. The suspense factor is really engaging and interesting. The end revelation and the emotional factor although a little predictable for regular movie watchers, the story and the unfolding is surprising enough to be thrilled.
Screenplay lacks that X factor. Although with the stellar cast, amazing story, the screenplay feels like an Indian daily saop drama. It could be in the makers minds that it’s a woman lead story, and that’s why there should be too many emotional scenes to make it more woman related, or they lack the capability to come out of that old woman-lead movie formula. If we see previous movies of the same creators, the producer for Satyabhama, Sashi Kiran Tikka: Major, Gudachari; although they have emotional back story, they are not dragged too much to disturb the flow of the movie, they were just the elements to support the movie.
This is what lacked in Satyabhama. The toughness, the strength of her character lacks at times. The screenplay is completely with an Indian daily serial tone. Isn’t it high time to move away from that with all the resources and knowledge we have now, in 2024? Whether it’s a man-lead police officer story or a female-lead police officer story, use emotions enough, use emotional moments in a realistic way. Let the story write the screeplay, don’t over impose emotions or drag it just because it’s a “woman-lead” movie.
Verdict: If you want to see Kajal Aggarwal in high octane action sequences, even if it’s for a less screentime comparing with the overall movie time duration of 2hrs 12min, watch Satyabhama. It has an engaging story along with a super hit India soap drama.
