“Romanchakam” Is a Fresh Love Story; Audiences Will Enjoy Every Scene: Hero Sumanth Prabhas
Presented by blockbuster director Sandeep Reddy Vanga under the Bhadrakali Pictures banner, Romanchakam stars Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar in the lead roles. Produced by Pranay Reddy Vanga and directed by debutant filmmaker Venu Gopal Reddy, the film blends romance, humour and suspense to offer a fresh and youthful entertainer.
The film is gearing up for a grand worldwide theatrical release on September 3. Ahead of its release, hero Sumanth Prabhas spoke about the film, his character, working with the team, and his upcoming projects.
How was your experience meeting Prabhas garu?
It was a very special and memorable experience for me to meet Prabhas garu in connection with our film. Meeting him brought back many memories of my past and reminded me of my journey so far. We went to meet him with certain expectations, but he welcomed us with so much warmth and affection. I could genuinely see the love and excitement of a true fanboy in him.
There is no film background in my family, and they don’t know much about the industry. So, initially, they couldn’t offer me much guidance or support in this field. They always told me one thing—to be good to everyone and stay positive. That advice has stayed with me throughout my journey.
You have explored different backdrops in your earlier films. Tell us about that journey?
I acted in Mem Famous, which was set against a Telangana backdrop, and the film received a good response, particularly from audiences here. Later, I worked on Godarigattupaina, which had an Andhra backdrop and was appreciated by audiences in Andhra Pradesh.
Both films gave me opportunities to explore different kinds of characters and showcase my versatility as an actor. Romanchakam, meanwhile, is set against the backdrop of Hyderabad, and it has a completely different flavour.
What kind of character are you playing in Romanchakam?
I play a young man who has completed his engineering and dreams of starting a startup company. He is a cute, innocent and relatable character. There are certain similarities between my real life and the character as well.
In fact, my father wanted me to become an SI. I got the opportunity to act in Mem Famous while I was pursuing my degree, and that eventually changed the direction of my life.
You had already acted as a hero in two films. Why did you undergo six months of workshops for Romanchakam?
Romanchakam is a film that I believe audiences from six to sixty can enjoy. It is something you can watch with your family or friends.
Although I had already done two films as a hero, director Venu Gopal Reddy garu wanted me to completely transform myself according to the requirements of this character. He conducted workshops for nearly six months.
I already had an idea of how I wanted to portray the character, but the workshops helped me understand the nuances and sharpen my performance. When I compare my performance from the beginning of the process to the final output, I can see a huge difference.
There were even instances where we practised a single scene continuously for two or three months. That level of preparation really helped me understand the character and perform better.
How did you come on board for the film?
I met Sandeep anna at an awards function. He told me, “There is a cute story. Listen to it.” Since he was narrating the story, I immediately felt that it would be something special.
Later, when Venu anna narrated the complete script, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was around two and a half hours long, but I never felt bored while listening to it. The story and screenplay were very engaging.
Sandeep anna and Pranay anna may appear to be very serious or different from the outside, but they are actually extremely sweet and warm people. Anyone who has travelled or spent time with them would know that side of their personalities.
Vijay Deverakonda attended your pre-release event. How did you feel about his support?
I was extremely happy that Vijay Deverakonda anna attended our pre-release event. It was very encouraging to hear him speak so positively about me and our film.
I have always been greatly inspired by Vijay anna. His journey and the way he established himself as a hero have always motivated me. His words at our event meant a lot to me.
What did Sandeep Reddy Vanga say after watching the first copy of the film?
After watching the first copy of Romanchakam, Sandeep anna complimented me and said that I had performed very well. Hearing those words from someone like him was a very special moment for me.
Initially, I was also a little curious about how audiences would respond to the title Romanchakam. It is a unique title, and I wondered whether it would connect with everyone.
But now, the word has almost become a catchphrase. I feel that after the film’s release, many people might start using “Romanchakam” in their everyday conversations as well.
Tell us about working with Ananthika Sanilkumar?
Ananthika is a very talented actress. She knows several art forms and has the ability to learn new things very quickly. Working with her on this film was a great experience.
She has put in a lot of effort for the movie, and I strongly believe Romanchakam will give her good recognition as well.
What can audiences expect from the film?
The movie gives the audience a genuine Romanchakam feeling from beginning to end. There is a lot of freshness in the film, and every scene has something interesting.
There are plenty of moments that will make audiences laugh. I personally had a lot of fun while watching the final output. At the same time, the love story and suspense elements keep the narrative engaging.
Vasuki Vaibhav has delivered fantastic music for the film. Radharaman is my favourite song. Prabhas garu also released another beautiful love song from the movie, which received a good response.
What kind of films would you like to do in the future?
I want to explore all kinds of films as a hero. At the moment, I am receiving scripts that are primarily love stories.
Once I establish myself as a hero, I hope I will also get opportunities to work in action-oriented and commercial films. I want to experiment with different genres and prove myself in every kind of role.
What is your next project?
My next film will be with director Saailu Kampati, who directed Raju Weds Rambai. The film will be produced under the Asian banner, and it is expected to begin this month itself.
For now, my focus is completely on Romanchakam. I am hoping audiences will enjoy the film, connect with the characters and experience the same excitement and freshness that we felt while making it.
