This is your first Telugu film. How was your experience working in Telugu?

Working in Telugu has been a completely new experience for me. I can learn languages quite quickly, and I can understand Telugu to some extent. Whenever I had doubts about a particular dialogue or line, I would ask the director and understand the exact meaning. That helped me a lot while performing.

I’m very happy that I’m making my Telugu debut with a film like ‘Comrade Kalyan’.

How was it working with Sree Vishnu?

Sree Vishnu is a very spontaneous actor. He often improvises at the shooting spot, which makes the scenes more interesting. At the same time, it was challenging for me because I had to respond to his spontaneity and stay in the moment.

Understanding his Telugu was actually a little difficult for me (laughs). He has his own signature style of acting. Working with such a spontaneous actor was definitely a great experience.

Among Sree Vishnu’s films, I really like ‘Brochevarevarura’. I have also watched ‘Swag’.

How did you come on board for ‘Comrade Kalyan’?

The director watched some of my Tamil and Malayalam films and approached me with the story. I really liked the script. It is a fun entertainer in Sree Vishnu’s signature style.

Interestingly, I was supposed to work with Sree Vishnu earlier in ‘Samajavaragamana’. We even had a photoshoot for the film, but due to certain reasons, that collaboration did not happen.

So, when I got the opportunity to work with him in ‘Comrade Kalyan’, I was very happy. I feel lucky to be making my Telugu debut with this film.

Tell us about your character?

My character is a very fun one. Her name is Sitara Devi. She is an innocent girl who has a very relatable, girl-next-door personality. In the film, she comes from Odisha.

The language itself becomes an interesting element between the hero and heroine, leading to some funny situations. Shooting in Odisha was also a new experience for me.

The song ‘Odiya Pilla’ has already received a very good response, which makes me happy.

Your characters so far have been quite different from one another. Is that something you consciously look for?

Yes. All the films I have done so far have been different from one another, and I want to continue experimenting with different characters in different languages.

I don’t want to restrict myself to one particular kind of role. Every film and every character I have done so far has been special in its own way, and I want to keep exploring new roles.

What made you choose this particular story?

The story is very fun, and the 1990s backdrop felt very fresh to me. It is a good commercial package with plenty of entertainment.

The film also has a Naxalism backdrop, but the director has presented that aspect in a very different and comic manner. That treatment was one of the things I found interesting about the film.

How was your experience working with the producers?

They are very passionate producers and also very nice people. They have supported the film wholeheartedly and have not compromised on the production. Their passion for the project is clearly visible.

What do you think about Telugu audiences?

Telugu audiences celebrate cinema in a big way. Whenever I came here for promotions, I received a wonderful response from them, which was very encouraging.

If the content is good, Telugu audiences embrace films irrespective of language. I hope they will give the same love and support to ‘Comrade Kalyan’ as well.

What kind of roles would you like to explore in the future?

As an actor, I want to do all kinds of roles. I want to take up characters that I feel I can do justice to.

I would like to experiment with different genres and characters rather than limiting myself to one particular type of role.

What are your upcoming projects?

I am currently working on one Malayalam film and one Tamil film. I am also listening to scripts in Telugu. I would definitely love to do more Telugu films if I come across interesting stories and strong characters.
