“I played a character that’s close to my real life in ‘Sodara’,” says heroine Arati Gupta
The film Sodara, starring Sampoornesh Babu and Sanjosh in lead roles, revolves around the bond between brothers. Directed by Man Mohan Menampally, Sodara is being produced by Chandra Chagandla under the banner of Can Entertainments. Arati Gupta plays the female lead, and the movie is set to release on the 25th of this month. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Arati Gupta shared her experience. Here are the highlights from the interview:
Tell us about your background.
I was born and brought up in Chandigarh, and I’m now settled in Mumbai. I’ve previously acted in several Bollywood films, but Sodara is my debut in Telugu cinema.
What made you say yes to this film?
I loved the story. It’s a beautifully written, light-hearted family drama. It’s the kind of movie you can watch with your friends, family, or anyone. I also really liked my character. I play an innocent village girl—simple, educated, innocent, and dignified.
How was it working with Sampoo and Sanjosh?
Both of them are sweet and very cooperative. When they’re on set, there’s a lot of energy around.
You mentioned on Instagram that you’re learning Telugu. Why is that?
I was inspired by the words of producer SKN during the trailer launch of this film. Telugu is a beautiful language, and if I want to settle down here, I must learn it. That way, I’ll be more comfortable.
How do you like Hyderabad?
There’s a special kind of energy here that’s hard to describe. It’s calm, and I feel very hopeful about becoming busy with work here.

Tell us about director Mohan.
Director Mohan is very supportive and cooperative. He gave me a role with a lot of scope to perform. Thanks to him, I was able to act well.
Have you seen any of Sampoo’s previous films?
Yes, I’ve heard about him. I know he’s an out-of-the-box actor with a strong fan base. I watched his previous film Martin Luther King.
How did it feel to play a traditional role?
I’ve played traditional roles before. Even in real life, I’m a simple girl. This character is very close to my personality.
What kind of roles or genres do you like?
I want to explore all kinds of roles and films. If needed, I’m ready to take on any kind of character.
Do you prefer performance-oriented or glamorous roles?
I prefer performance-oriented roles. If you act well, you naturally look beautiful. Even if you look glamorous but can’t act, it doesn’t work. So, my first priority is always performance-oriented films.
Which actress inspires you?
I really like Alia Bhatt. Her journey and the roles she has taken up have inspired me a lot. Her script selection is also great.
Who’s your favorite hero in Tollywood?
I really like Allu Arjun. I enjoy all his movies.
What do you like most about Telugu cinema?
I really admire the punctuality here. The professionalism of the artists is amazing. I also appreciate how everyone is treated equally on set. I still have a lot to learn about Telugu cinema.
