With a unique concept that blends fantasy and magical elements, the film Tuk Tuk is set to bring fresh content to the audience. Starring Harsha Roshan, Karthikeya Dev, Steven Madhu, Saanvi Meghana, and Nihal Kodhati in key roles, this film is directed by C. Supreet Krishna. It is produced by Rahul Reddy, Lokku Sri Varun, and Sriramulu Reddy under the banners of Chitravahini and RYG Cinemas. The movie is slated for a worldwide release on March 21. What is the core message of this film?
The idea for this film came when I saw a vehicle in a cricket advertisement. I wondered—what if a vehicle had life? This thought led to the story of Tuk Tuk. We blended this concept with a commercial package to create an engaging film. The story revolves around how the vehicle Tuk Tuk comes into the lives of kids and the intriguing backstory behind it. The film has both entertainment and emotional elements.
Does this film have any similarities to previous movies like Bamma Maata Bangaru Baata, Mechanic Mamayya, or Karu Diddina Kaapuram?
No, there are no similarities. This is a completely original story, and it is not inspired by any previous films.
How did you select the cast?
The film required three teenage boys, which is why we chose Harsha, Karthikeya, and Madhu. We selected them through auditions and conducted workshops before starting the shoot.
What is the storyline of the film?
The story is set in Chittoor, spanning from the 1990s to the 2020s. Even the title Tuk Tuk has a backstory. We named it after a sound, and its significance will become clear when audiences watch the film. Since I come from a Chittoor background, this setting worked well for the film.
How was the vehicle character designed?
The scooter in the film has knowledge of the past, present, and future. When asked a question, it responds in its own unique style. As seen in the trailer, the vehicle adds humor but also carries strong emotional depth.
What makes Tuk Tuk special?
The entire story revolves around Tuk Tuk. The mystery of why the vehicle comes into the characters’ lives and how it connects with everyone forms the crux of the story. The film has a strong emotional core, is deeply rooted in a village backdrop, and includes high-energy sequences that will engage audiences.
How does Roshan’s recent success with Court impact your film?
Roshan has a lot of confidence in this film as well. The success of Court will definitely work in our favor, as it boosts interest in his performance.
Apart from the vehicle, what are the other highlights of the film?
The film features fantasy and magical powers along with multiple layers to the story. A key question that intrigues the audience is—what is Tuk Tuk? Is it a ghost or a divine presence? The screenplay is tight and well-structured, incorporating strong commercial elements.
Tell us about your background.
I worked as a writer under Puri Jagannadh and also directed an OTT film called Alanaati Sitrala. Tuk Tuk is my debut feature film as a director.
Will there be a sequel to Tuk Tuk?
I am considering developing Tuk Tuk as a franchise with different vehicles and unique backstories.
What’s next for you?
The response to this film will determine my next project, including its scale and genre. But I will definitely continue to explore fresh and unique stories.
