“Court” is a Highly Realistic Film; My Respect for Lawyers Increased After Playing This Role: Priyadarshi

Natural Star Nani‘s Wall Poster Cinema presents “Court – State vs A Nobody,” featuring Priyadarshi in the lead role. Directed by Ram Jagadeesh and produced by Prashanthi Tipirneni, the film is co-produced by Deepti Ganta. “Court” is set to hit theaters on March 14, 2024. The already released trailer and romantic song have received overwhelming appreciation from the audience. Ahead of the film’s release, lead actor Priyadarshi shared insights into the film and his role during a media interaction.

How Did the Journey of “Court” Begin?

“In 2022, while working on another film with Ram Jagadeesh, we were discussing under a tree during a hot summer. We were determined to make a good film, and that’s when Ram mentioned he had an idea. I asked him to write the script, and after six months, he came back with the complete story. Initially, I was unsure if audiences would accept such a legal drama, but deep down, I believed that if this movie worked, it would become unforgettable.

Later, while working on ‘Hi Nanna’ in Goa with Nani, I mentioned this story. After listening to it, Nani was immediately on board and decided to back the film under Wall Poster Cinema. That’s how ‘Court’ started.”

Were You Always Considered for the Lawyer’s Role?

“When the script was being written, Ram Jagadeesh initially thought of casting a big actor. But I was deeply interested in playing this role, so I convinced him. When we approached Nani, he also supported the idea.”

Legal Dramas Are Common in Bollywood. How Realistic Is This Film?

“Every courtroom drama must focus on evidence, facts, and legal procedures. To maintain authenticity:

  • We consulted real-life lawyers to understand laws like POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act) and its punishments.
  • We gathered references from judges and real court judgments to create accurate material.
  • I observed how lawyers and judges behave in court, their attire, and their body language to ensure realism.

We also visited district courts in Vijayawada to see how actual trials unfold. The director even ensured that the POCSO court setup was depicted as it looked before 2024. Every effort was made to maintain realism.

Since we are handling a subject related to the judiciary, we made sure to show it with utmost respect.”

What Did You Learn from Playing a Lawyer?

“Through this role, I gained immense respect for lawyers. I also realized the importance of the Constitution, which was drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. This film gave me a deeper understanding of the legal system.”

Why the Title “State vs A Nobody”?

“In legal terms, when someone is accused of a crime, the state must prove their guilt. That’s why court cases are titled ‘State vs Accused’. We wanted to highlight the idea that law is equal for all, which led to the title.”

Are You Planning Special Screenings for Lawyers?

“Yes! We plan to screen the movie for lawyers and the Bar Council members. We have already received positive feedback from Bar Council members. We are also inviting Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy Garu to watch the film.”

Nani Stated, “If You Don’t Like This Film, Stop Watching My Movies.” What’s Your Take?

“This statement reflects his confidence in the film. Nani is known for choosing credible and reliable scripts. After watching the film, he said, ‘I expected it to be good, but it turned out even better.’ That was the best compliment.”

“I want to do a biopic on Dr. K.I. Varaprasad Reddy, the founder of Shantha Biotech. That’s a project I have been dreaming about for a long time.”

If “Court” Becomes a Box Office Success, Will You Consider Yourself a Commercial Hero?

“If this film earns more than its budget, then yes, I will consider myself a commercial hero. For me, a film is a commercial hit when it brings money while maintaining strong content. Audiences will come to theaters only if actors like me continue choosing good stories.”

Thoughts on Wall Poster Cinema and Producers?

“Producers Prashanthi Garu and Deepti Garu made sure we had everything we needed. They were always on set, supporting us. Nani Garu watched the rough cuts and gave valuable suggestions.”
