Can Bollywood Bring Keerthy Suresh Back to Form?
After facing back-to-back setbacks with Uppu Kappurambu and Revolver Rita, Keerthy Suresh finds herself at a crucial turning point in her career. The National Award-winning actress is now pinning her hopes on a mix of female-centric and multilingual projects to stage a strong comeback.
Currently, she is headlining a women-driven film Kannivedi, directed by Ganesh Raj, while also working on an untitled project alongside Mysskin. Amid these developments, a significant update has caught attention—Keerthy is reportedly playing the female lead in the Bollywood film Raftaar, opposite Rajkummar Rao. The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on July 24.
Raftaar marks Keerthy’s second Hindi outing after her debut Baby John, which failed to make an impact at the box office. With her recent films not delivering commercially, the actress is now in urgent need of a solid hit to regain her market standing.
Trade analysts, however, remain cautious about her current lineup. Despite her growing presence across multiple industries, there are concerns that none of her upcoming projects appear particularly promising. Some experts also point out that while Rajkummar Rao is a critically acclaimed performer, he may not command the kind of mass pull required to guarantee a big commercial success.
The announcement of Raftaar sparked mixed reactions on social media. A section of netizens speculated that Keerthy’s move towards Bollywood could be a strategic attempt to reinvent her career after a series of disappointments in the South. Adding to the concern is the apparent lack of buzz around the film—even with its release just months away, awareness remains surprisingly low.
This has led to a growing perception that Keerthy Suresh is currently navigating one of the most challenging phases of her career. However, the film industry is known for its unpredictability. If Raftaar manages to exceed expectations, it could well turn into a surprise success and serve as the much-needed turning point for the talented actress.
