I’m Happy to Make My Telugu Debut with Champion; Chandrakala Will Be a Memorable Character Forever: Anaswara Rajan

Champion, the upcoming film from Swapna Cinemas, has already created strong buzz with its interesting promotional content. The film stars Roshan and Anaswara Rajan in the lead roles and is directed by Pradeep Advaitham. Presented by Zee Studios, the film is jointly produced by Anandi Art Creations and Concept Films. The songs composed by Mickey J Meyer have turned into chartbusters. Champion is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 25. On this occasion, actress Anaswara Rajan interacted with the media and shared insights about the film.

How does it feel to make your Telugu debut with Champion under a prestigious banner like Swapna Cinemas?
I feel truly fortunate to make my Telugu debut with a film produced by reputed banners like Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinemas. I don’t speak Telugu fluently, yet the entire team supported me immensely and took great care of me. It feels special that my first Telugu film is coming under such a respected production house.

Your Telugu dialogues in the teaser were impressive. How was your experience delivering Telugu dialogues?
Honestly, I don’t have much knowledge of the Telugu language. However, director Pradeep garu and everyone on the unit supported me wholeheartedly. The director patiently taught me every word and pronunciation. With their encouragement, I was able to deliver the dialogues confidently. I hope the audience appreciates my effort.

What is your message to Telugu audiences?
Telugu audiences have very big hearts. They watched my films in other languages and sent me such wonderful messages, which really motivated me. Their encouragement gives me a lot of strength. I believe they will shower the same love on my first Telugu film as well.

How was your experience working in the Telugu film industry?
Everything in Telugu cinema is very grand. The filmmakers and producers are extremely supportive. Once you work here, you naturally feel like doing more Telugu films. I especially love the large canvas on which films are made here.

How did you feel about the response to the Giragira song?
The response to Giragira has been very heartwarming. I personally love the song, and my friends enjoy it too. We had a lot of fun shooting it. Roshan is an amazing dancer, and I even learned a few dance tips from him during the shoot.

How was the support from Swapna garu?
I received immense support from Swapna garu. Whenever I performed a scene, her applause on set gave me a lot of positive energy. She felt like a big sister to me throughout the journey.

What was your first reaction when you heard the story?
I became very emotional after listening to the story. It’s the kind of story that stays with the audience forever. The film has all the essential elements of a good movie. My character Chandrakala will definitely leave a lasting impression on viewers.

What attracted you to the character of Chandrakala?
The moment I heard the narration, I instantly connected with the character. Playing Chandrakala brought me immense happiness. Even as an audience member, I enjoy watching films with such strong emotional depth.

How was your experience working with Roshan?
Roshan is very sweet. He supported me a lot, especially with dialogues and dance. He is truly one of the sweetest co-stars I’ve worked with.

You worked with Mohanlal sir early in your career. How do you look back at that experience?
I am a huge fan of Mohanlal sir. Getting an opportunity to act alongside him is truly a blessing. Working with him is a lifetime memory that I will always cherish.

Any memorable moments from Rekha Chithram?
Rekha Chithram was a very memorable film for me, and the character will always stay close to my heart. During that film, getting an autograph from Mammootty sir was a complete fan-girl moment for me.

What was the biggest challenge in playing Chandrakala?
Language was the biggest challenge. When you know the language, you can improvise naturally. Without that comfort, it becomes difficult. However, with director Pradeep garu’s support, I was able to deliver exactly what the character required.

How was your experience working in a period film?
I absolutely love doing vintage period films. They allow us to experience things that are impossible in real life—right from the costumes to the atmosphere. Getting ready as Chandrakala and wearing period costumes was something I truly enjoyed.

Did you like Hyderabad food?
Yes, very much! It’s quite spicy, but I absolutely love Hyderabadi biryani.

Your thoughts on the film’s music?
Mickey J Meyer garu has given fantastic music. I’ve always loved his Happy Days songs and have been listening to his music for years. The music of Champion is very soulful. Both the songs released so far have become super hits.

The trailer is being launched by Ram Charan sir. How do you feel?
I’m extremely happy that Ram Charan garu is launching our trailer. I love his film Magadheera and have watched it countless times.

Your favorite Telugu star?
Allu Arjun.

What are your upcoming Telugu projects?
I’m currently working on Itlu Mee Arjun. In fact, I signed that film before Champion, but Champion will release first.
