“I’ll Never Forget the Love Telugu Audiences Gave Kantara: Chapter 1” — Rishab Shetty

“I’ll Never Forget the Love Telugu Audiences Gave Kantara: Chapter 1” — Rishab Shetty

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1, produced by the prestigious pan-India banner Hombale Films, has emerged as one of the biggest cinematic triumphs of the year. Released on October 2nd, the film has captivated audiences across all regions and continues to dominate the box office.

Within its first week, Kantara: Chapter 1 grossed an astounding ₹509 crores worldwide, setting a new benchmark for Indian cinema. The film has been hailed as a visual wonder, mesmerizing viewers and critics alike.

Serving as a prequel to the pan-India blockbuster Kantara, the film has been running successfully across theatres, creating waves of appreciation and admiration. On this occasion, actor and director Rishab Shetty shared his thoughts with the media about the film’s journey and success.

Congratulations on the massive success of Kantara: Chapter 1!

Rishab Shetty: Thank you so much! My heartfelt gratitude to the Telugu audience for their overwhelming response. Just like Kantara, this film too has received incredible love. I can never forget the warmth and support from every single person who stood by me in this journey.

Was the idea of making a prequel always there?

Yes, the idea existed even during the making of Kantara. After witnessing the phenomenal response to that film, I felt inspired to begin writing the script for its prequel.

You’re being praised for reviving Indian folk storytelling through Kantara. How does that feel?

It feels wonderful. We wanted to tell a story with complete honesty — and the audience connected deeply with that sincerity. India has always been a land of rich folklore, and I’m truly happy that Kantara’s success has opened doors for more such stories to be told.

I personally love working with folk tales. Kantara is rooted in the traditions and legends of my own region, which is why we chose to shoot it there.

Was making Kantara: Chapter 1 a challenging process?

Absolutely. Kantara is a complex script, and filming it was a huge challenge. Every single day brought new obstacles — but that’s what made the journey so fulfilling.

Building a world like Kantara’s was a massive process. We even set up a dedicated studio in our native region to bring that authenticity to life. Since childhood, I’ve always wanted to shoot in my hometown, so having the local people involved in the process made it even more special.

Your wife also contributed to the film, right?

Yes, and I’ll never forget her support. As the costume designer, her creative input added immense value to the film.

Tell us about Rukmini Vasanth’s role.

I chose Rukmini after watching her previous performances — she’s a wonderful actress. Likewise, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram sir received tremendous appreciation for their roles. Each and every actor brought life to their characters and delivered beyond expectations.

Between acting and directing, what do you enjoy more?

Direction will always be my first preference. Acting gives me satisfaction, but directing allows me to express my complete vision.

What about Ajaneesh Loknath’s music?

Ajaneesh created something truly unique for this film. He traveled to tribal areas to record authentic native sounds and built the score from those roots. His contribution is unforgettable.

You share a good bond with Jr NTR — tell us about that.

NTR garu is like a brother to me. He has been an incredible source of support, and I’ll always remain grateful for his encouragement and kindness.

A word about Hombale Films?

Hombale Films’ support has been phenomenal — not just as producers but also on a personal and moral level. Their belief in the project gave us the strength to make Kantara: Chapter 1 the way we envisioned it.

What’s next for you?

I’m currently working on Jai Hanuman, and I have a few more ideas in development. They’ll take some time to shape up, but I’m excited about what’s coming next.

Rishab Shetty’s heartfelt gratitude and grounded storytelling continue to resonate deeply with audiences across India — making Kantara: Chapter 1 not just a film, but a cultural experience that celebrates the spirit and soul of Indian folklore.
