Krish Wrote Desiraju Role for Me, Ghaati Will Be a New Experience”- Vikram Prabhu
The much-awaited action drama Ghaati, starring Queen Anushka Shetty, is directed by visionary filmmaker Krish Jagarlamudi. Actor Vikram Prabhu plays the male lead in this magnum opus, produced by Rajeev Reddy and Sai Babu Jagarlamudi under the First Frame Entertainment banner, with UV Creations presenting it. With its powerful promotional content, the film has already created huge buzz and is set for a grand release on September 5th.
In a recent media interaction, Vikram Prabhu shared his excitement and experiences about working on the project.
What was the most exciting factor that made you sign this film?
Honestly, it was director Krish Garu. When he narrated the story to me, I was instantly excited. He’s such a positive person with immense experience. Even before narrating, he first gave me a clear idea of how the world of Ghaati would look. He explained for nearly half an hour why he specifically chose me for the role of Desiraju. He even spoke about the fan base I have in Hyderabad and referred to several scenes from my earlier films. Then he said, “I wrote this character keeping you in mind.” That made me extremely happy. After our discussion, I realized we were both on the same wavelength about the film.
What was your reaction after listening to the script?
The script felt very fresh and unique. The world of Ghaati is something everyone can connect with. Krish Garu had done immense research and homework before shaping this story. He cleared all my doubts with such clarity that I felt confident and gave my nod. And, of course, having my favorite actress Anushka Garu in the project made me even happier.
This is your first direct Telugu film. How does that feel?
It’s really exciting! I’ve always been a huge fan of Chiranjeevi Garu and Nagarjuna Garu. I grew up watching their films in theatres multiple times. Now, to be part of Telugu cinema with a direct film feels like a dream coming true.
Had you been planning a direct Telugu film for long?
Yes, I always wanted to do a Telugu film. But in my life, nothing ever really goes as planned. I initially wanted to become a director, but destiny made me an actor. So, I just follow my heart and go with the flow.
I actually missed an earlier chance to work with Anushka Garu. Director Gunasekhar first narrated the role of Gonaganna Reddy in Rudhramadevi to me, but it didn’t work out at that time. Later, Allu Arjun Garu played it brilliantly and did full justice to the character.
How was it working under Krish’s direction?
It was a very comfortable experience. He is a very poetic filmmaker, but at the same time, he shoots with strong confidence. Every single scene has been designed to connect with the audience. All the actors, including Anushka Garu, performed exactly in sync with the script.

When can we expect to see you share screen space with your father, veteran actor Prabhu?
That’s something I too wish for. But I wouldn’t want us to appear together just for the sake of it. If a story truly demands it and gives our combination meaningful impact, then it would be a delight for the audience as well. If such a script comes along, I’m absolutely ready.
Tell us about the action sequences in Ghaati.
I thoroughly enjoy doing action scenes, and I had a blast shooting them for this film. Here, the DOP’s role becomes crucial. Manoj, our cinematographer, is young and energetic, and he captured the sequences in a very unique way. Compared to my earlier films, the action in Ghaati will definitely stand out.
What kind of experience did the role of Desiraju give you?
Every role teaches an actor something new. For me, the biggest challenge here was the way the character of Desiraju speaks. It was tough but also very enriching.
How was it working with Anushka Shetty?
I’ve always been her admirer. True to her name, she is an incredibly sweet person – but also powerful at the same time. She has this rare ability to communicate so much just with her eyes and expressions. Working alongside her was a wonderful experience.
Your thoughts on music director Sagar’s contribution?
No matter how well the actors perform or how beautifully the cinematographer shoots the film, it is the music that brings everything to life. Sagar has given us an outstanding score. You will definitely feel its impact when you watch Ghaati in theatres.
And the producers?
Working with the producers was very comfortable. Making regular commercial films is one thing, but producing a film like Ghaati requires true passion. They believed in the story and backed it wholeheartedly. After watching the film, you’ll understand exactly why I say this.
