Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha Teaser Stuns, Releasing September 12

The much-anticipated period drama Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan, is making waves with its intense teaser and striking visuals. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Selva Mani Selvaraj, this Tamil-Telugu bilingual is produced on a grand scale by Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prasath Potluri, and Jom Varghese under Spirit Media Pvt. Ltd. and Wayfarer Films Pvt. Ltd. banners.

To mark Dulquer Salmaan’s birthday, the makers released the gripping teaser, significantly raising the expectations around the film.

Veteran actor Samuthirakani plays a crucial role, while newcomer Bhagyashree Borse stars as the female lead opposite Dulquer. Set in the evocative backdrop of 1950s Madras, Kaantha explores the intense emotional and ideological conflict between two key characters—Chandran, a rising film star played by Dulquer, and Ayya, a veteran filmmaker portrayed by Samuthirakani.

The narrative begins with deep camaraderie between Ayya and Chandran during their early careers. However, as fame and success arrive, their bond slowly deteriorates. Ayya develops a powerful horror film titled Santhanu, centered around a strong female protagonist. But Chandran, now a superstar, gradually takes over the project, reworking the script and title to suit his image—thus transforming it into Kaantha.

The teaser beautifully captures the rich aesthetic of the 1950s, with meticulous attention to detail in set design, costumes, and visual storytelling. Dulquer delivers a commanding performance, while Samuthirakani impresses as a seasoned filmmaker caught in an emotional and ethical dilemma. Bhagyashree Borse makes her presence felt with elegance and depth.

The technical team also shines—Dani Sanchez-Lopez’s cinematography brings the era alive with visual finesse, and art director Thaa. Ramalingam enhances the period setting with grandeur. Jaanu Chantar’s haunting score heightens the emotional tension, while Tamil Prabha provides additional screenplay support. Editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez ensures a gripping narrative flow.
