War 2 Trailer Review: Hrithik Roshan vs Jr NTR – Sparks Fly, But Does It Truly Ignite?

War 2 Trailer Review: Hrithik Roshan vs Jr NTR – Sparks Fly, But Does It Truly Ignite?

Yash Raj Films has finally dropped the much-awaited trailer of War 2, igniting a wave of excitement among fans. Set in the high-octane world of the YRF Spy Universe, the trailer pits two cinematic titans — Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR — against each other in what promises to be a fiery clash of ideologies, patriotism, and raw power.

The trailer opens with Hrithik Roshan’s voiceover, revealing his desire to vanish — to shed his past and assume a new identity. We then cut to Jr NTR, playing a relentless force on a national mission, determined to do whatever it takes. The stage is set for a massive showdown, as the narrative builds toward a face-off between these two forces of nature.

While War 2’s trailer aims to deliver an adrenaline rush, it lands somewhere between promising and predictable. Interestingly, fan expectations were tempered after the lukewarm response to the teaser — but the trailer appears to exceed that bar, offering more substance, style, and scale.

There’s a glimpse of a romantic subplot between Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani, hinting at emotional conflict and depth. The tone of this installment is noticeably darker and more intense than earlier films in the spy franchise, teasing morally complex arcs and a story with real stakes.

Jr NTR, who faced criticism after the teaser, redeems himself here. His character appears menacing, calculated, and well-matched to Hrithik’s seasoned spy. The action sequences — high on style and execution — give fans plenty to look forward to. However, the trailer leans heavily on dialogues and stylized shots, with actual emotional stakes still held back — possibly to avoid major spoilers.

One area where the trailer underwhelms is the background score. Compared to Anirudh Ravichander’s thunderous BGM in Coolie (which releases the same day), War 2’s music lacks punch and memorability. That could be a concern, especially in mass markets where BGM plays a crucial role in audience engagement.

Visually, the VFX is competent, though not groundbreaking. Thankfully, there’s no cringe-worthy content or unintentionally memeable moments — a trap big-ticket action films sometimes fall into. Still, a little more polish on the CG work wouldn’t hurt.

As far as regional appeal goes, it remains to be seen how the Telugu audience, which hasn’t fully embraced the spy genre yet, responds to this pan-India offering.

Despite its flaws, the War 2 trailer succeeds in doing what it needs to — generate buzz. With Hrithik Roshan’s proven box office pull and Jr NTR’s pan-India fan base, the film is poised for a massive opening. A ₹50 crore+ day-one Hindi net seems likely, but to breach the ₹60 crore mark, the film will need exceptional word of mouth from early screenings.

The war is real, and the battlefield is the box office. So, as August 14 approaches, fans must pick a side. Are you Team Hrithik or Team NTR?
