Walks for World Kidney Day Organized By AINU HITEC City

The Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) HITEC City branch has today organised “AINU Kidney Run” to spread awareness on kidney health among the people of Hyderabad. More than 1000 people took part in the 5k and 10k runs organised at the Gachibowli sports complex to commemorate the World Kidney Day which is on March 9th.

Kidneys come under the most vital organs of a human body, which are required for purification of waste in the body. The main job of kidneys is to cleanse the blood of toxins and transform the waste into urine. Each kidney weighs about 160 grams and gets rid of between one and one-and-a-half litres of urine per day. The two kidneys together filter 200 litres of fluid every 24 hours.

Kidney health for all is the theme for this year’s World Kidney Day. In a country like ours where the incidence  diabetes and hypertension is high we need to spread the awareness of kidney health as these two life style diseases have a profound impact on kidney health.

Commenting about the run and it’s need, Dr. Deepak Ragoori, Consultant Urologist, AINU said, “Kidneys are vital organs in the human body, and many people ignore their importance in maintaining proper health. It is important, individuals who are diabetics ensure they monitor their kidneys health regularly, which is critical for the purification process. AINU Kidney Run is an effort to spread awareness on kidney health. It is in personal interest and in the interest of the society at large that more and more people are made aware of kidney ailments and means to mitigate the same. The number of diabetic patients in the country is increasing at a rapid pace, and it is important people are made aware of the risks to ensure India does not become home to the maximum number of diabetic patients in the world.”

World Kidney Day is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of our kidneys. World Kidney Day started in 2006 and has not stopped growing ever since. Every year, the campaign highlights a particular theme. 2023 Kidney Health for All – Preparing for the unexpected, supporting the vulnerable.
