Asuran fame Vetrimaran’s Tamil film Viduthalai (Liberation) has hit the screens in Telugu states as Vidudala.

After garnering hit talk the movie has been dubbed into Telugu and was released 15 days later. Let’s see how the movie is being received by Telugu audiences.

Plot

Aspiring police officer Kumar (Soori) tops the academy. Contrary to his expectations and merit, he is given the post of carrying food to his higher officers. He is also forced to do chores at the place of his post.

While Kumar struggles to cope with the situation, the actual plot of the film begins with the police department launching an operation to catch the head of Prajadalam, Perumallu (Vijay Sethupathi). Kumar faces a conflict between the police’s abuse of power and people’s war for liberation and how he deals with it forms the rest of the story.

Analysis

The film was released to good response in Tamil and the same is repeating in Telugu. Director Vetrimaaran presented a complex subject between the political system of the country and extremists who fight for freedom through the lens of the lead role Kumar. The screenplay is gripping and the characters are presented interestingly.

Vidudhala is a routine but thought-provoking social drama presented in Vetrimaaran’s own style of filmmaking.

Ilaiyaraaja’s songs only add to the drama in the film. His background music is soothing but could have been better given his talent.

The entire film is eye-pleasing and the visuals are rich in presentation.

Performances

Vijay Sethupathi’s presence adds much-needed weight to the movie. As a people’s war leader, Vijay gives his best to the role.

Soori who was seen as a comedian till date has proved his capabilities of doing a different role. His acting is engaging and helps the viewer get along with the story. Director cum actor Gautam Vasudev Menon who played a cop was apt for the role.
