“UNITY” Clinches Best Documentary Award at Gaddar Film Awards 2025
Director Vijay Kumar Badugu Honored for His Cinematic Tribute to Telangana Icon Konda Laxman Bapuji
The Government of Telangana has officially announced the winners of the prestigious Gaddar Film Awards 2025, and the documentary “UNITY – The Man of Social Justice” has emerged as the winner in the Best Documentary category. Directed by young and talented filmmaker Vijay Kumar Badugu from Bhoodan Pochampally, the film offers a powerful and inspiring portrayal of legendary freedom fighter and social reformer Konda Laxman Bapuji, widely regarded as the “Father of the Telangana People.”
The official announcement was made by documentary and short films jury chairman, acclaimed filmmaker Vijay Kanakamedala, at the Telangana Film Development Corporation office in Hyderabad. The jury commended the documentary for its compelling narrative and its ability to present Bapuji’s remarkable legacy in an engaging manner that resonates with audiences ranging from scholars to young students.

Production:
Produced by Chirandas Srikanth, the documentary features impressive performances by renowned performance artist Mime Madhu and child actor Master Bhanu, who vividly bring the inspiring life journey of Konda Laxman Bapuji to the screen.
Technical Brilliance:
The 30-minute documentary was particularly appreciated by the jury for its high-quality visuals, impactful narration, and crisp editing, which maintain a compelling pace throughout the film while effectively highlighting key moments from Bapuji’s life and his contributions to social justice and the Telangana movement.
International Recognition:
Prior to receiving the Gaddar Film Award, “UNITY – The Man of Social Justice” had already garnered international recognition. The film won two awards at the Bharat International Film Festival in Mumbai and also earned the Best Director Award for Vijay Kumar Badugu at the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards 2025 held in New Delhi.

Expressing their gratitude on the occasion, director Vijay Kumar Badugu and producer Chirandas Srikanth said:
