Tollywood Pro League Launched in Grand Style by Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, and Dil Raju
It is well known that for Indians, cricket and cinema are the ultimate forms of entertainment, sharing an inseparable bond. Keeping this powerful connection in mind, actor and entrepreneur Vamsi Chaganti, along with EBG Group’s Irfan Khan and Hari, conceptualized and launched the Tollywood Pro League.
The grand inauguration ceremony of the Tollywood Pro League was held at the Novotel Hotel, Hyderabad, with legendary cricketers Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, and Suresh Raina gracing the occasion as chief guests.
Speaking at the event, Vamsi Chaganti, one of the founders of the Tollywood Pro League, said:
“So far, we’ve seen only stars playing cricket. But what if everyone working across the 24 departments of the film industry—setting aside their designations—came together to play as equals? That thought gave birth to the Tollywood Pro League.
Once, while playing cricket with the police department, I saw Police Commissioner C.V. Anand and a constable Loknath Naik open the innings together. Watching them forget ranks and play in perfect coordination left a deep impression on me. That’s when I realized our film industry also has many talented cricketers across departments. Bringing them together on one platform would be something truly special.
When I shared this idea with Dil Raju garu, he immediately encouraged me, saying, ‘This is a great idea—execute it. I’m right behind you.’ Once he gave the go-ahead, there was no looking back.”
Vamsi further revealed that the idea was shared with EBG Group’s Irfan Khan and Hari, who came forward wholeheartedly and played a key role in shaping the league into a grand reality.
The Tollywood Pro League will be held over five days—February 13, 14, 15, 21, and 22—at the Uppal Stadium, Hyderabad. The tournament will feature six teams, each owned by leading production houses from Tollywood. The names of the team owners, however, are being kept under wraps for now.
Organizers Irfan Khan and Hari stated:
“With everyone’s continued support, our company EBG aims to organize similar leagues across India. A portion of the revenue generated from this league will be donated to welfare activities, which will be handed over by FDC Chairman Dil Raju.”
Producer Dil Raju shared his thoughts, saying:
“Though it’s called the Tollywood Pro League, to me it feels like a Telugu film industry ‘Alai–Balai’, reflecting Telangana tradition. I loved the idea the moment Vamsi shared it. I am fully committed to taking this league forward and making it a grand success.”
The Tollywood Pro League logo, team jerseys, and winners’ trophy were unveiled by Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Dil Raju, music director Thaman, Irfan Khan, Sonu Sood, Raashii Khanna, and Hari.
Filmmakers Anil Ravipudi, Prashanth Varma, Sailesh Kolanu, and Omkar expressed their excitement, stating that the idea of the entire film industry playing cricket together is thrilling. They also launched a special cricket-themed promotional video directed by Sailesh Kolanu, urging professionals from all 24 departments to gear up for the tournament.
The event witnessed the presence of prominent producers TG Vishwa Prasad (People Media Factory), Rajeev Reddy (First Frame Entertainment), Naga Vamsi (Sithara Entertainments), Sahu Garapati (Shine Screen), Bapineedu (SVCC), along with actors Ashwin Babu, Khayyum, Harsha Chemudu, and the entire team of Committee Kurrollu director Yadhu Vamsi.
Veteran actors Murali Sharma, Ashish Vidyarthi, Dino Morea, and nearly 150 cricket-playing members from various departments of the film industry also attended the grand launch, making it a truly memorable celebration of cricket and cinema.
