“The character of Satyabhama in O Bhaama Ayyoh Raama will entertain everyone” – Malavika Manoj

Actor Suhas is starring in the upcoming romantic comedy entertainer O Bhaama Ayyoh Raama. The film marks the Telugu debut of actress Malavika Manoj (famed for her role in the Malayalam film Jo), who impressed audiences with her performance in that film. Directed by Ram Gopal Godala and produced by Harish Nalla under the V Arts banner, the film is set for a global theatrical release on July 11.

Speaking to the media on Monday, actress Malavika Manoj shared her thoughts on the film and her experience:

How did you get the opportunity to act in O Bhaama Ayyoh Raama?

Director Ram watched my performance in the Tamil-dubbed Malayalam film Jo and chose me as the heroine for this film. I really liked the story the moment I heard it.

What aspects of the story appealed to you the most?

It’s hard to describe in just one line. The story felt very unique to me. In my past films, I’ve usually played simple village girl roles. But in this movie, my character is modern, hyper, and has an attitude. It’s a kind of variety that every actor wishes for. I play the role of Satyabhama in this film.

Did you do any homework or preparation for the role?

Honestly, I didn’t do any specific prep or homework. The character of Satyabhama is nothing like who I am in real life. Even though I don’t know Telugu, I understood the emotion behind the dialogues and performed accordingly.

How was your experience acting in a Telugu film?

I felt really happy. Telugu technicians and artists are very professional. I felt extremely comfortable while acting. Apart from the language, I had no difficulties. Like with every industry, I found a comfort zone here too.

Was there any particularly challenging scene in the film?

Yes! I don’t know how to swim, but there was a scene involving swimming. I didn’t want to delay the shoot, so I pushed through my fear and did the scene. I was genuinely scared, but I did it for the film.

Have you started learning Telugu?

Yes, during the shooting, I began trying to learn Telugu. I understand it now. I also watch Telugu films dubbed from Tamil. Recently, I watched the Telugu hit Hit 3.

Do you wish to take on more challenging roles?

Absolutely! I always want to play different and challenging characters. If I keep doing routine roles, not only will I get bored, but so will the audience. I enjoy seeing myself in diverse roles with each film.

How was your experience working with directors like Harish Shankar and Maruthi?

It was really nice working with such great personalities.

What was it like working with Suhas?

He’s a very nice person and a hard worker. On set, he only talks about the film. He’s not someone who talks a lot otherwise.

Do the love scenes in O Bhaama Ayyoh Raama feel different?

Even though love scenes are common in most films, in this one, they feel fresh and different. Audiences will definitely enjoy and be entertained by them.

How does it feel to be part of this film?

I feel very lucky to have done this movie and to play a role like Satyabhama.

Tell us about your family background.

I come from a non-film background. I’m acting with my family’s support. Initially, relatives were a bit scared about my career choice, but I had no fear. Acting in films is something I feel proud of. After watching the trailer, my family is now very happy.

Have you seen any of Suhas’s previous films?

Yes, I watched Color Photo and Hit 2.

What do you consider while choosing films?

I’ve received many offers, but I only accept films whose stories I really like and that fit my comfort zone. I take on a role only if I feel I suit it. My first film was in Malayalam, then Jo in Tamil.

The songs in this movie have received a great response. Which is your favorite?

I love all the songs. Regardless of language, these songs have touched people. Every track really moved me emotionally.

About producer Harish?

He is a very nice person who spent generously on the film. He genuinely loves cinema.

Will you do glamorous roles?

I don’t have any rule about doing glamorous roles or not. If the story is good and I feel comfortable, I’ll do the role. I won’t do characters that don’t appeal to me.
