The makers of the much-anticipated pan-India action thriller Kattalan have unveiled the film’s first song, and it’s already grabbing attention for all the right reasons. Produced by Shareef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainments banner, the film’s opening musical offering features a high-energy item number that puts Sunil front and centre.
Well-known to Malayali audiences through blockbuster films like Pushpa and Jailer, Sunil delivers a dynamic and electrifying dance performance in the song titled “Majako Mallika.” Presented as a massy item number, the track showcases his powerful screen presence and energetic moves.
Composed by B. Ajaneesh Loknath, the song is penned by Vinayak Shashikumar and sung by Anand Sriraj and Bhadra. Released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, Majako Mallika is already resonating with audiences across languages.
Kattalan is gearing up for a grand pan-India theatrical release on May 14 and is being touted as one of the biggest Malayalam releases of the year. Directed by debutant Paul George, the film comes from the production house that earlier delivered the blockbuster Marco. The teaser, released earlier, received a thunderous response, promising adrenaline-pumping action and stunt sequences rarely attempted in Malayalam cinema.
The film stars Antony Varghese in the lead role, supported by an impressive ensemble cast that includes Dushara Vijayan, Kabir Duhan Singh, Raj Tharandasu of Pushpa fame, Bollywood actor Parth Tiwari (noted for Kill), and popular Malayalam actors Jagadish and Siddique. Social media sensations Hanan Shah, rapper Baby Jean, and Hipster also play key roles.
Adding further scale to the project, internationally acclaimed stunt choreographer Kecha Khamphakdee—best known for the Ong-Bak franchise—has designed the action sequences, which were filmed extensively in Thailand. The globally popular elephant “Pong,” made famous by the Ong-Bak films, also appears in the movie.
Music for Kattalan is composed by B. Ajaneesh Loknath, whose pan-Indian success includes chart-topping albums from Kantara and Maharaja. Even before wrapping up production, the film has reportedly shattered several pre-release records and secured one of the biggest overseas deals in Malayalam cinema. Leading music label T-Series has acquired the audio rights, while Shemaroo will handle the digital and satellite distribution.
Mounted on a massive scale, Kattalan is conceived as a true pan-India spectacle. The screenplay is written by Joby Varghese, Paul George, and Jero Jacob, with dialogues by Unni R. The film will release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
The technical crew includes Executive Producer Jumana Shareef, Cinematographer Renadive, Editor Shameer Muhammed, Production Designer Sunil Dass, and VFX by 3 Doors. Overseas distribution is handled by Farz Films, while promotions and PR are being executed across multiple regions by a dedicated team of industry professionals.
With a powerful first song, high-voltage action, and a strong pan-India cast, Kattalan is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about theatrical releases of the season.
