Singer Mangli Files Police Complaint Over Casteist Abuse on Social Media
Folk singer and popular performer Mangli has filed a police complaint after receiving abusive and casteist comments on social media related to her recently released song “Bayilone Balli Palike.”
The singer approached the SR Nagar Police Station in Hyderabad, alleging that a man had posted derogatory remarks not only about the song but also targeting her community, making caste-based insults that fall under punishable offences.
According to police officials, the accused had uploaded videos and posts that contained abusive, demeaning, and caste-targeted comments, which deeply offended the singer. Following the complaint, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Initial reports indicate that the individual involved has already been taken into custody for questioning. Authorities are verifying the content and assessing the sections applicable under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with relevant cybercrime laws.
The incident has sparked debate on social media, with many supporting Mangli and condemning the increasing cases of online harassment, especially targeting women, artists, and individuals from marginalized communities.
Mangli, known for her energetic folk performances and viral songs, expressed that such remarks not only insult her personally but also demean an entire community. She stated that strong action is necessary to discourage caste-based hate on digital platforms.
Police have assured a fair investigation and strict action as per law.
