Shiva feels absolutely stunning in Dolby Atmos a mind-blowing experience — Nagarjuna

Ram Gopal Varma: “As Chiranjeevi garu said, as long as cinema exists, Shiva will remain immortal.”

The all-time cult classic Shiva, starring King Nagarjuna and directed by Ram Gopal Varma, redefined Indian cinema, creating a clear divide — Before Shiva and After Shiva. Originally released in 1989, the groundbreaking film was produced by Akkineni Venkat and Surendra Yarlagadda under the Annapurna Studios banner.

Now, as part of Annapurna Studios’ 50-year celebrations, this cinematic masterpiece is all set to return to theatres on November 14, in 4K Dolby Atmos, offering a spectacular big-screen experience for a new generation of movie lovers.

At a grand trailer launch event attended by fans, King Nagarjuna and director Ram Gopal Varma unveiled the stunning Shiva re-release trailer. The upgraded visuals and immersive Dolby Atmos sound design left everyone spellbound — every frame radiated intensity and emotion, culminating in that iconic cycle chain moment that sent chills down the spine. The trailer has reignited excitement to relive the Shiva magic like never before.

Nagarjuna’s heartfelt words:

“Thank you all for coming here with so much love. Your parents might have watched Shiva when it first released — please convey my thanks to them as well. And thank you all for carrying that same love forward. My biggest thanks go to my dear friend Ram Gopal Varma.

36 years ago, he made Shiva with me and turned me into a star. I watched the remastered version this morning — it felt absolutely stunning. Ramu spent nearly six months redesigning every sound track with deep passion, ensuring the film stands tall as a milestone again. The visuals, the sound — everything is outstanding.

Watching it now made me realize we don’t often get to experience sound design of this brilliance anymore. Shiva in Dolby Atmos will be truly mind-blowing. Shiva is forever. I wish to come back to this same stage after another 36 years and present it to you again. On November 14, you’re all going to experience Shiva like it’s brand new. As Rajamouli garu once said — there’s Indian cinema before Shiva and after Shiva. Shiva will remain eternal.”

Ram Gopal Varma’s reflections:

“Hello everyone. I never imagined that 36 years after making Shiva, Nagarjuna and I would share the same stage again to launch its re-release trailer. It’s a truly great feeling.

Back then, Nagarjuna gave me complete creative freedom — visually and sonically — and even today, he’s shown the same trust. We’ve redesigned the sound with the best modern technology to make the experience even more powerful.

As Chiranjeevi garu beautifully said, as long as cinema exists, Shiva will remain immortal — just like Chiranjeevi himself.
