Seetha Payanam, directed by Action King Arjun and starring Niranjan and Aishwarya Arjun in the lead roles, is produced under the Shri Ram Films International banner. The film marks Aishwarya Arjun’s debut as a heroine.plays a key role. Releasing on February 14, the film is set to arrive in four languages. As part of promotions, Arjun Sarja interacted with the media.
Why did you decide to release Seetha Payanam in four languages?
Earlier, I used to make films in two or three languages. But this story has a universal emotion. Irrespective of language, people can connect to it. It’s a feel-good subject that works everywhere, so releasing it in four languages felt right.
Did producing a film with your daughter affect the budget planning?
Not at all. When I work with my family, I have complete control over the budget. I know exactly where to spend and how much to spend, which gives me a lot of comfort.
Why did you choose Telugu cinema to introduce your daughter?
The Telugu film industry has given me immense love and respect. I wanted to give something back. That’s why I chose Telugu cinema to introduce Aishwarya.
Was another hero initially considered for the film?
Yes, the story was ready and we initially considered Vishwak Sen. Sometimes things don’t go as planned. We didn’t change even a single scene in the script. Niranjan stepped in perfectly. There are no issues at all—life is a full circle. If things align, we might work together in the future.
You launched your daughter instead of a star son. What made you take that decision?
Daughters are heirs too. There should be no discrimination. If they have passion and interest, we must support them. My daughter loves acting, so I encouraged her.
What kind of film is Seetha Payanam?
It’s a mature, layered story—not just a love story. There are strong emotions throughout. Loving your family and loving your country is also a form of patriotism, and that thought runs through the film.
How important is action in this film?
Action is present, but it’s never forced. It flows organically with the story and mass audiences will enjoy it. Anup Rubens has given excellent songs and background score that elevate the film emotionally.
What kind of roles do you still want to explore as an actor?
I want to explore every kind of role. Abhimanyudu brought me great appreciation. Villain roles and comedy roles excite me as well. My next film will be a complete action entertainer.
What was the censor board’s response?
They were very emotional after watching the film and appreciated it a lot. The movie received a clean ‘U’ certificate without a single cut.
How did the idea of Seetha Payanam originate?
I got this idea nearly 13 years ago. It stayed with me all these years. I even shared the core thought with my daughter back then. Eventually, I developed it fully and felt this would be the perfect film to introduce her.
Tell us about the hero and heroine’s roles.
These characters are not written for glamour or songs alone. Every role has depth and purpose. There’s huge scope for performance. Audiences will definitely talk about Aishwarya and Niranjan after watching the film. The father–daughter emotion shown here is something new.
Do you enjoy acting more or directing?
At the moment, I prefer directing. I have five to six scripts ready. My next project will be a pure mass action film—no love story, no songs—only action, with a role suitable for my age.
Is Hanuman Junction 2 on the cards?
Yes, I’d love to do Hanuman Junction 2. I recently spoke to Jagapathi Babu, and he feels the same. If we get the right story, I’ll direct and produce it myself.
Which of your films would you like to re-release?
Gentleman. It’s still very relevant even today.
How was your experience with Pawan Kalyan at the launch event?
I’ve met Pawan Kalyan only a few times. When I invited him for the pooja ceremony, he agreed instantly. He said he’d stay for five minutes but ended up spending three hours with me. He’s extremely honest and genuine. My family has admired him since Khushi. At the event, he told me, “We are here for you.” That meant a lot.
Do you have plans to enter politics?
Politics doesn’t suit me. I’m happy acting and directing (laughs). I do want to do good for people, but politics is a different journey.
Your final message about Seetha Payanam?
Seetha Payanam is made for everyone—from Gen Z to elders. It’s a film that families can happily watch together in theatres.
