Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi on Tuesday asked women staffers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to report any incident of sexual harassment directly to her or to approach the Women Protection Cell of the corporation. Inappropriate behaviour towards women will not be tolerated, she said at a review meeting at the Serilingampally Zonal office.
The statement from the Mayor came in the wake of a complaint received on Monday wherein charges of inappropriate behaviour and misconduct with a woman computer operator were levelled against a statistical officer. After the women reported the issue to Mayor, she instructed the Additional Commissioner of the Sanitation wing to take action against the official and to transfer him to his parent department.
Meanwhile, the Mayor asked officials to step up developmental works and give priority to sanitation. The civic body officials informed her that 149 works have been completed and 222 works were under progress.
The meeting was attended by Priyanka Ala, GHMC Zonal Commissioner of Serilingampally, Deputy Commissioners, engineers and other officials.
