Story:
A rowdy sheet (Saudhirakani) is saved by a teenager who, in the process, kills a woman and ends up in jail. Upon his release, the now-MLA rowdy takes the young man, Rathnam (Vishal), under his wing like family. Rathnam becomes the MLA’s loyal right-hand man, enforcing a system of “parallel judiciary.”
Rathnam’s life takes a turn when he encounters a captivating woman named Mallika (Priya Bhavani Shankar) and feels compelled to follow her. Later, he witnesses a group of men attempting to kill Mallika and intervenes, becoming her bodyguard. The mystery deepens as Rathnam is forced to question everything when he realizes these attackers are not his enemies but Mallika’s. Who is Mallika, and why is she a target? What connects her to Rathnam and the MLA’s past? The film explores these questions as Rathnam fights to protect Mallika and potentially find redemption for his own actions.
Merits:
The movie is a complete mass action film. This is made for that audience that enjoys such South Indian mass action sequences, which include long knives like sickles, billhooks, and knives that are used to cut buffaloes or goats.
The action sequences are not routine; they have included some modern fight choreography in the traditional mass fights.
The movie reminds movie like- Terminator series, replacing the technology with South Indian mass action sequences, and adding emotional drama. The main mission is to keep the target, i.e., Mallika, safe.
The story itself has many unique twists that could surprise viewers.
Vishal and Samuthirakamni have performed well according to the requirements. Yogi Babu claims the floor when he is on the screen.
Murali Sharma bags another unique villain role in his career.
The story and the action sequences are the elements that draw this genre’s fans to theatres.
Demerits:
The story is unique as well as weird. It would be hard to digest. Rathnam is entirely like another addition to Hari’s movie list of mass movies similar to his past movies.
The music is not at all up to Devi Sri Prasad standards, except for the BGM in some scenes.
Verdict:
Audiences who enjoyed Vishal’s and director Hari’s previous movies of this genre would definitely enjoy this. This is only for those groups. Others may not even sit throughout the movie. There is too much violence and blood spilling.
