Rao Bahadur Will Redefine My Career: Satyadev
‘Rao Bahadur’ Fulfilled My Dream; Mahesh Babu’s Voiceover Is Priceless, This Film Will Redefine My Career:Satyadev
Versatile actor Satyadev is all set to surprise audiences with his most ambitious film, Rao Bahadur, a psychological thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Venkatesh Maha. Presented by Superstar Mahesh Babu and Namrata Shirodkar under GMB Entertainment, the film is produced by Chinta Gopalakrishna Reddy, Anurag Reddy, and Sharath Chandra under the A+S Movies and Srichakras Entertainments banners. Scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on July 3, the film has already generated significant buzz through its intriguing glimpse, teaser, and songs.
Satyadev opened up about the film, his challenging transformation, Mahesh Babu’s support, and why he believes Rao Bahadur will become a landmark in his career.
“Our Confidence Comes After Watching the Film”
Satyadev said the team’s confidence stems from the final output of the film. He revealed that the makers had initially coined the tagline, “A Telugu film never seen before,” even before production began. After watching the completed film, Mahesh Babu echoed the very same sentiment, while several filmmakers who viewed the film described it as a truly unique cinematic experience.

A Psychological Drama with Magical Realism
Describing the film’s genre, Satyadev explained that Rao Bahadur is primarily a psychological drama infused with elements of magical realism and dark comedy. He added that while certain visuals may appear horror-like in the teaser, they will have a deeper emotional and narrative meaning once audiences watch the film in theatres.
“Rao Bahadur Fulfilled My Long-Time Dream”
Calling the project the most physically and mentally demanding of his career, Satyadev revealed that he always dreamed of performing in a film requiring extensive prosthetic makeup, much like actors Kamal Haasan, Suriya, and Vikram.
He spent nearly five hours every day applying makeup and another 90 minutes removing it, while regularly working 16-hour shifts. More than the physical transformation, he emphasized that preparing mentally for the character was the biggest challenge.
“People Will See My Career as Before and After ‘Rao Bahadur'”
Satyadev confidently stated that just as he once viewed his career as before and after Jyothi Lakshmi, he now believes audiences will remember him as before Rao Bahadur and after Rao Bahadur.
His character, Ramappa, has no cinematic reference point, he said, adding that after watching the film, Ramappa itself will become the benchmark for such roles. He admitted that he became so immersed in the character that it felt as though Ramappa had taken over him during filming.
Set Between 1960 and 1999
The story unfolds between 1960 and 1999, following a wandering protagonist who returns to his ancestral palace, Bhuvanalayam, where a series of mysterious events begins to unfold.
Not Action, But Powerful Performances
Although the film does not feature conventional action sequences, Satyadev said it is packed with emotionally intense acting moments. One entire song was filmed on ropes, and the actor even learned Salsa dancing for the project, marking the first time he performed extensive dance sequences in his career.

He also praised co-star Deepa Thomas, saying she delivered an equally compelling performance in what he described as a beautiful love story woven into the narrative.
Technical Brilliance Creates a Unique World
Satyadev credited director Venkatesh Maha for crafting a richly layered psychological world. He praised the work of the CGI team led by Ramji, saying the visual effects were essential in bringing Ramappa’s mind and imagination to life.
He also applauded cinematographer Karthik, music composer Smaran Sai, the art department, costume designers, and the entire technical crew for delivering exceptional work.
Recalling a compliment from actor Nani, Satyadev shared that the Natural Star told him, “When everyone on a film performs their duty perfectly, the result becomes a film like Rao Bahadur.”
Mahesh Babu’s Voiceover Is Priceless
One of the most emotional moments for Satyadev was hearing Mahesh Babu introduce the film in his voice.
He recalled acting in Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, where his scene was eventually edited out. Years later, hearing Mahesh Babu say “Satyadev in Rao Bahadur” during the teaser voiceover became a deeply emotional and unforgettable experience.
Satyadev revealed that Mahesh Babu and Namrata watched the film together and spent nearly 40 minutes discussing it. Director Sukumar also watched the film and praised it highly. According to Satyadev, everyone who has seen Rao Bahadur has described it as a Telugu film unlike anything made before.
Producers Backed the Film Wholeheartedly
Expressing gratitude to producers Sharath, Anurag, and Gopalakrishna Reddy, Satyadev said they took complete responsibility for the film’s release and ensured it received a grand theatrical rollout. He admitted that some of his previous films faced marketing challenges, but this time the producers left no stone unturned.

A New Cinematic Experience for Telugu Audiences
Satyadev believes Telugu audiences have always appreciated innovative films from Tamil and Malayalam cinema and often wonder why similar experiments are rare in Telugu.
He expressed confidence that Rao Bahadur will fill that gap by delivering a fresh cinematic experience and is optimistic that the film will emerge as a major box-office success.
“Every Ticket Will Be Worth It”
Calling Rao Bahadur a visual spectacle, Satyadev promised that audiences would receive complete value for every ticket they purchase. He also predicted that composer Smaran Sai’s music would mark a turning point in the young musician’s career.
Looking ahead, Satyadev revealed that his upcoming projects include Samavarthi, a forest-based action drama, a comedy entertainer, and Full Bottle, in which he plays a mass-oriented role.
With glowing endorsements from Mahesh Babu, Sukumar, and several filmmakers already building anticipation, Rao Bahadur is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing Telugu releases of the year, promising a visually distinctive psychological drama unlike anything audiences have experienced before.
