Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna starrer much-awaited pan-India film ‘Ranabaali’ continues to build curiosity with its unique documentary series, ‘Ranabaali – Never Forget the Truth’. The second episode, titled ‘The History We Forgot’, is now streaming on YouTube.
Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, ‘Ranabaali’ is presented by T-Series and produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar under the banner of Mythri Movie Makers. The film is slated for a grand worldwide theatrical release on October 16, coinciding with Vijayadashami.
As part of the four-episode documentary series, ‘The History We Forgot’ features Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna discussing lesser-known aspects of India’s history during British rule. The episode explores the exploitation of India’s agricultural wealth and examines the role of the railway network constructed during the colonial period in transporting the country’s resources.
Rashmika Mandanna shares her experience of researching the historical period for the film. She says that several aspects of the past remained unfamiliar to people because certain information was not widely accessible during British rule and was also not discussed extensively among Indians. She adds that learning more about the period, the circumstances of the time and the lives of people during that era gave her a deeper understanding of history and left her emotional.
Vijay Deverakonda, meanwhile, discusses the commonly known narrative surrounding the construction of railways in India during British rule. He points out that while the British did build railway lines, the economic interests behind the network are an important part of the larger historical context.
According to Vijay, Indian labour played a major role in constructing the railway network, which was subsequently used to transport agricultural produce and other resources from different parts of India to ports for export. He speaks about commodities such as grain, cotton, spices and gold, highlighting what he describes as the exploitation of India’s resources during the colonial period.
The documentary series is designed to explore historical themes connected to the world of ‘Ranabaali’ and provide audiences with additional context ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
The third episode, ‘The Men We Forgot,’ is scheduled to begin streaming on October 2, while the streaming date for the fourth episode, ‘The Last Load,’ will be announced soon.
With its historical backdrop, grand scale and the pairing of Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, ‘Ranabaali’ is gearing up for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16.
