In a candid conversation, the lead actors shared their journeys, experiences, and what audiences can expect from this emotionally charged film.
Hero Akhil Raj Speaks
“Becoming an actor was always my dream”
Acting has been my dream since childhood. After Intermediate, I stepped into the industry and worked as a media anchor and photographer. Later, I made short films for YouTube like Sakhiya and Evandoi Owner Garu, which received great appreciation. I also acted in Vindubhojanam, which may not have released theatrically but is streaming on Aha.
The lockdown slowed everything down, but it also gave me space to refine myself. I took theatre training and kept auditioning. After multiple rounds of tests and performing in front of director Sailu garu, Venu sir, and the ETV Win team, I finally got selected for Raju Weds Rambai.
Mastering Telangana dialect & dappu
Even though I’m familiar with the Telangana dialect, the accent changes from place to place. For this film, I learned the exact style spoken in the story’s village. I also trained for two months to play the dappu. Today, I can proudly say I can play it well.
“Raju will connect with every young man”
Raju is a character filled with love, pain, anger, and courage. He stands tall against everything love throws at him. When I read the script—especially the climax—I felt breathless. It took me a while to come out of that emotional impact.
On working with Tejaswini
Tejaswini is an incredible co-star. We rehearsed before every scene, discussed our characters, and followed the director’s vision with full honesty. After watching our film, audiences will realize how far true lovers go for each other.
“I’ve struggled ten years for a break like this”
I’ve been fighting for a place in the industry for a decade. I even rejected a few offers recently to focus solely on promotions. I truly believe Raju Weds Rambai will change my life the moment it releases.

Our song Rambai Neemeedha Naku is already a huge hit. Suresh anna’s music is one of the biggest strengths of the film. The climax will be something Telugu cinema hasn’t seen before. Audiences are already discussing it on social media.
I have a film coming with Suresh Productions titled Small Town Boys, and another project with Anupama Parameswaran and Tharun Bhascker. Whatever roles I get, I want to perform them with complete sincerity.
Heroine Tejaswini Speaks
My journey began in 2019 with a short film. My first movie was Committee Kurrollu, directed by Yadhu Vamsi. Through him, I came to know about Raju Weds Rambai. They felt I was perfect for Rambai—and that’s how I became part of this beautiful story.
“Telangana dialect was a major challenge”
I’m from Rajahmundry, so speaking in Telangana slang was new to me. Director Sailu garu trained me with patience, explaining not just pronunciation but also the emotional tone behind the words.
“Rambai is one of the most layered characters written for a heroine”
Rambai isn’t just a simple girl. She’s cheerful with Raju, strong during hardships, and emotional when it comes to her father’s approval. Roles like this are rare. After the trailer released, I received a lot of appreciation for looking natural—and that credit goes entirely to my director.
“The climax broke me emotionally”
The last 30 minutes of the film are extremely intense. While shooting those sequences, I couldn’t come out of the emotional space for a long time. We did workshops so that the climax could hit the audience with full impact.
“This film will be remembered as a cult classic”
Raju Weds Rambai can be compared to films like
7/G Brindavan Colony, Premisthe, Baby, and Sairat.
It has that rawness, that honesty, and that pain which stays with you long after leaving the theatre.
Although the film is inspired by a real incident, it also carries cinematic elements to make it enjoyable for the audience.
I’m currently acting in a Tamil film with Prabhu Solomon sir. I haven’t signed any new Telugu films yet, but I’m listening to scripts. I always choose stories as an audience—if a script moves me, I will say yes.
