Rajesh Danda Confident on Naresh Film, Plans Big Project Next Year
Successful producer Rajesh Danda, who delivered back-to-back blockbusters like Samajavaragamana, Ooru Peru Bhairavakona, and K Ramp under the Hasya Movies banner, is currently busy with exciting projects. A film starring Allari Naresh and another titled “Black Gold” with Samyuktha in the lead are gearing up for release.
On the occasion of his birthday (March 19), Rajesh Danda interacted with the media and shared insights about his ongoing projects and future plans.
How did it feel to have Ugadi and your birthday on the same day?
It felt like a wonderful surprise. Celebrating my birthday on Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, is happening after nearly 15 years, so it feels very special.
Last year, our film K Ramp released during Diwali and became a super hit. Riding on that success, we are moving forward with several exciting projects.
Your banner is known for unique stories. How do you select scripts?
I always make sure there’s a fresh point in every story I choose. It should be engaging while listening and also visually appealing on screen. Films like Samajavaragamana, K Ramp, and Bhairavakona all have distinct concepts.
My experience as a distributor has helped me understand what works and what doesn’t, which greatly supports my script selection process.
How did your journey begin?
Honestly, I never planned to become a producer. After completing my MCA, I entered the software field. Unexpectedly, I became a distributor with Swamy Ra Ra. Later, I distributed films like Sarileru Neekevvaru and Master.
Through my association with Anil Sunkara, I learned the nuances of production. Traveling with him gave me valuable experience. Eventually, I made my debut as a producer with Naandhi. My distribution experience has been extremely beneficial.
How do you manage budget control?
I mostly work with new directors and closely monitor every aspect of production. This helps us complete shoots in fewer days than planned, keeping budgets under control.
Were there any films that disappointed you?
Bachchala Malli had a unique concept, and we strongly believed it would work. Similarly, we had high expectations for Majaka. However, both didn’t perform as expected in theaters. Interestingly, they received excellent responses after their OTT release.
Tell us about “Black Gold” with Samyuktha?
It’s a unique story centered around a police officer who uses a gun and a villain who also relies solely on a gun. The concept is very fresh, and we are making it on a grand scale.
This will be a completely new role for Samyuktha. Only five days of talkie shoot are left. We are planning for a June or July release.
Update on Allari Naresh’s film?
The shoot will be completed in the first week of next month. We are planning a summer release. It’s a full-fledged entertainer, something Naresh garu is doing after a long time.
After serious films like Naandhi and Bachchala Malli, this will be a complete entertainer. We are confident it will be a super hit. The title will be announced soon.
Updates on films with Allu Sirish, Aadi Sai Kumar, and Adivi Sesh?
We finalized a story with Aadi Sai Kumar even before the release of Shambhala. The pooja ceremony will be held on the 27th of this month.
We are also planning a film with Allu Sirish under the direction of Solo Life fame Subbu. Both projects will begin simultaneously. A project with Adivi Sesh is also under discussion.
When can we expect the “Samajavaragamana” sequel?
Writers are currently working on the sequel. Once the story is finalized this year, we plan to start the project next year.
About the film with ETV Win?
It’s a courtroom drama based on a real incident with a very unique concept. Casting is currently in progress, and the film will have a theatrical release.
There’s a perception that producers only invest money. Your thoughts?
A producer must be actively involved in both story and shooting. They should know what’s happening on set every day. Instead of depending solely on managers, direct involvement helps keep budgets under control. I personally stay involved in all my projects.
Is it becoming difficult for small films to release?
New and small producers need complete understanding of the industry. It’s important to know how to release a film after making it.
OTT platforms are also selective now. So, filmmakers must believe in strong stories and good content.
Will OTT platforms entering production impact the industry?
There are reports about OTT platforms entering production. I’ve already collaborated with them on projects like Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam and Bachchala Malli with ZEE5.
It’s good if they collaborate with local producers. But if they fully take over production, we’ll have to see how things change—it may reduce opportunities to some extent.
Your dream project?
I don’t have a specific dream project, but I haven’t done a pure love story yet. I would love to make a film like Gulabi or Ninne Pelladata—a wholesome love story that appeals to both youth and families. I’m currently listening to such scripts.
When can we expect projects with top stars?
We are definitely planning a big film next year. Discussions are currently ongoing, and an official announcement will be made soon.
