“Playing the role of Aravind in ‘Single’ is my good fortune. The overwhelming response to the film has brought me immense joy.” — Vennela Kishore
‘Single’, starring the King of Entertainment Sree Vishnu and produced by the prestigious Geetha Arts, has become a sensational summer blockbuster. Ketika Sharma and Ivana played the female leads, while Vennela Kishore had a pivotal role. The film was directed by Karthik Raju and produced by Vidya Koppineedi, Bhanu Pratap, and Riyaz Chowdhary in collaboration with Kalyan Films, under the presentation of mega producer Allu Aravind. Released on May 9, the movie has entertained audiences and is running successfully as a summer blockbuster. On this occasion, Vennela Kishore shared his thoughts with the media.
Your character in ‘Single’ received tremendous appreciation. Some even called you the second hero. How does that feel?
“It’s like when you eat chicken biryani and occasionally find a liver piece—it brings a different taste. My character is like that in this film (laughs).”
The director said there was no other option but you for this role.
“Director Raj is a great person. Sri Vishnu is very spontaneous and improvises his dialogues. So, to match that spontaneity, he needed an actor who could react instantly. Raj felt I was the perfect fit for such a character. That’s why he fixed that wherever Sri Vishnu appears, Vennela Kishore should be in the frame too.”
What was your reaction when you first heard the story?
“It felt extremely hilarious right from the start. When Bhanu Nandu narrated it to me, I thoroughly enjoyed it. That same entertainment translated well onto the screen.”
Audiences are really enjoying the film in theaters.

“Honestly, I usually don’t watch my own movies on screen. But watching this one in theaters along with the audience, their reaction gave me immense happiness.”
How do you ensure freshness in your comedy roles?
“Honestly, the versatility in choosing comedy roles has reduced nowadays. We need to encourage writers more. Only when they come up with new ideas will comedy roles feel fresh. Often, I get regular roles, but I try to own them and bring some uniqueness to them. When a scene progresses because of me, it gives me great joy.”
What kind of roles do you prefer to play?
“I love characters that take you into another world and entertain there. For example, the roles I did in Geetha Govindam and Ami Thumi are some of my favorites.”
How challenging is it to make people laugh these days?
“It’s very challenging now, especially with content overflowing across platforms. Just opening Instagram reels shows tons of comedy videos. For people to come to theaters and enjoy, we need to offer something beyond that. Finding such roles is a huge challenge.”
What’s your favorite genre?
“I love thrillers.”
After ‘Charlie’, you haven’t done any lead roles. Do you plan to act as a hero again?
“I am getting offers, but they are mostly love stories with songs, which don’t quite suit me. If I get a proper comedy script, I’ll definitely do it.”
How did it feel when Brahmanandam garu said you’re his successor?
“That was said out of affection. It was his way of giving me a boost, with love.”
Do you have any dream roles?
“I don’t have specific dream roles. After Dookudu, I felt like I already did my dream role—acting alongside Mahesh Babu in a strong character. Everything I’m doing now is a bonus. I’m thoroughly enjoying it.”
Your favorite characters?
“There are many, but the unforgettable ones are from Vennela, Bindass, and Dookudu.”
How did you feel when offered the role of Aravind in a Geetha Arts film?
“I felt really lucky to get such a role.”
