Peddi Chooses U/A Route After Censor Changes

Peddi Chooses U/A Route After Censor Changes

Mega Power Star Ram Charan’s highly anticipated film Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, is all set for a grand theatrical release on June 4, with premiere shows planned a day earlier on June 3. As the film enters its final stage of promotions, Peddi has now completed its censor formalities and secured a U/A certificate from the Censor Board after undergoing a few modifications.

According to reports, the film has locked a lengthy runtime of 3 hours and 9 minutes, signaling an intense commercial entertainer packed with drama, action, and emotions. However, the censor process reportedly led to several dialogue and lyrical changes before the certification was granted.

One of the major highlights revolves around the already viral “Chikiri” song. The Censor Board is said to have objected to the phrase “Saruku – Saamanu” used in the track. Following the objection, the makers reportedly replaced the wording, and audiences may notice a different lyric version in theaters.

Apart from the song, a few mass-style slang words and strong expressions used in the film were also muted to comply with U/A certification standards. Reports suggest words like “Bokka” and “Lamdi Kodaka” were beeped in certain scenes. Additionally, one allegedly objectionable gesture involving a character was completely removed.

In recent years, commercial entertainers have increasingly relied on raw slang, street-language dialogues, and edgy content to enhance mass appeal. At the same time, censor authorities continue maintaining stricter norms, especially for films targeting a U/A certificate instead of an Adults Only rating.

Interestingly, A-certified films have lately become a promotional advantage of their own. Movies like Animal, Salaar, and Dhurandhar generated huge curiosity after receiving A certificates, with audiences expecting intense and unrestricted content.

However, Peddi appears to be taking a different path. By opting for a U/A certificate, the makers seem focused on reaching a wider audience base that includes families, youth, and general moviegoers, rather than limiting the film to adult viewers alone.

Now, the big question remains — would Peddi have benefited more from retaining its raw intensity with an A certificate, or is the U/A route the smarter commercial move for a pan-audience blockbuster? The real answer will unfold once the film hits theaters worldwide on June 4.
