Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, The Forest Man of India, Honored with the Prestigious Sankalp Kiran Puraskar
Hyderabad witnessed an inspiring celebration of social service and human values as the Suchirindia Foundation hosted its annual Sankalp Diwas at Mountain Heights, Shilparamam. The event, observed every year on the birthday of Lion Dr. Y. Kiron, once again upheld its legacy of honoring changemakers and spreading joy among children from special schools.
The highlight of this year’s celebrations was the conferring of the Sankalp Kiran Puraskar upon Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, fondly known as The Forest Man of India, for his extraordinary contribution to environmental conservation and social welfare. The ceremony was graced by Sri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Former Vice President of India, who attended as the Chief Guest.
The event began with vibrant music and dance performances by children from 50 special schools—an emotional and uplifting display of talent, enthusiasm, and resilience. Their performances stood as a reminder that true ability lies beyond limitations.
Dr. Y. Kiron’s Vision for Sankalp Diwas
Addressing the gathering, Lion Dr. Y. Kiron shared the heartfelt inspiration behind Sankalp Diwas and his dedication to turning his birthday into a meaningful celebration of service. “Today is very special for us. Along with sharing our joys and sorrows, we also discuss future activities. I began Sankalp Diwas to make my birthday meaningful and useful to society—to bring light into someone’s life. Even on difficult days, spending time with these pure-hearted children gives me renewed energy and hope.”
Dr. Kiron further emphasized the importance of empowering children with disabilities and called for collective efforts to address critical social issues such as drug abuse among youth. He also stressed the need for promoting organic farming and holistic village development.

Receiving the Sankalp Kiran Puraskar, Padma Shri Jadav Payeng expressed profound gratitude and admiration for the work being done by the Suchirindia Foundation.
He shared,
“I am honored to receive this prestigious award. Brother Kiron is a great person. Even before meeting him, I had heard much about his commitment to society. These special children are the real heroes. I thank Kiron garu for giving me this opportunity. During the lockdown, I realized that what we do for society gives far more satisfaction than what we earn.”
