“Let’s Safeguard Our Families and Stand United Against Drugs”: Global Star Ram Charan
June 26 marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking—commonly known as World Drug Day. Observed worldwide, the day aims to promote global awareness and collaboration to build a drug-free society. In observance of the occasion, the Telangana Government organized a major awareness program under its Rising Telangana initiative. The event was attended by Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy as the chief guest, with Global Star Ram Charan joining as a special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Ram Charan expressed heartfelt gratitude:
“I want to thank our Honorable Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, my brother Vijay Deverakonda, Dil Raju garu, Pullela Gopichand, and everyone here today. I also warmly welcome all the friends and attendees who joined us.”
Charan recalled childhood memories associated with such campaigns:
“Events like these take me back to my school days, when we used to participate in similar awareness programs. It’s nostalgic and deeply meaningful to be part of such an important initiative today. I sincerely thank the Telangana Government for spearheading this campaign and including all of us in this mission.”
He then reflected on the growing dangers of substance abuse in everyday spaces:
“Years ago, we’d buy soda or popsicles at school, unaware of anything dangerous around us. Today, it’s heartbreaking to hear that in some of those same spots, children are unknowingly being exposed to harmful substances. What once seemed impossible is now our reality.”
Citing the 2015 anti-drug protests, Charan stressed the alarming evolution of the issue:
“What began as a concern has now morphed into a full-fledged organized crime network. That’s terrifying. Back then, I wasn’t a father. Today, I homeschool my daughter, and the very thought of sending her out to school brings anxiety.”
He emphasized the importance of seeking healthier and meaningful pursuits:
“As Vijay Deverakonda rightly said, there’s a ‘high’ in waking up early, working out, going to a film shoot, coming home to play, spending time with family, ending the day with a bath, and sleeping peacefully. That’s the real high. Success in films, scoring well in exams, enjoying games with friends, and sharing time with loved ones—these are the joys we should be chasing.”
Charan concluded with a powerful message of unity and responsibility:
“We must protect our families, friends, and schools. That’s what truly matters. I never imagined there would be an internationally recognized day focused on this cause—but it’s here, and it’s needed. Let’s support the Rising Telangana initiative and join hands to create real change.
A heartfelt thank you to the Telangana Police Department for treating this issue with the seriousness it deserves. Together, let’s stand united—as warriors in this fight against drug abuse.”
