Kamal Haasan Inspired My Dance Journey, Says Megastar Chiranjeevi at WAVES 2024 in Mumbai
The inaugural World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2024) kicked off with grandeur today at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launching the event. Aimed at revolutionizing the global media and entertainment industry, WAVES 2024 is a four-day summit focused on collaboration, creativity, and innovation in film, television, OTT, and music sectors.
One of the highlights of Day 1 was a prestigious panel discussion featuring legendary Indian cinema icons—Megastar Chiranjeevi, Superstar Rajinikanth, Hema Malini, Mohanlal, and Mithun Chakraborty. The session was moderated by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, adding further star power to the event.
During the session, Chiranjeevi shared an inspiring story about his journey into films and the legends who shaped his artistic approach. Reflecting on his early days, he said, “From childhood, I had a passion for acting. I used to perform dance routines in front of friends and family who encouraged me. Eventually, I moved to Chennai with dreams of becoming an actor. The Telugu industry already had greats like NTR, ANR, Krishna, and Shobhan Babu, so I kept asking myself what I could do differently to stand out.”
He credited his acting evolution to iconic figures across Indian cinema. “While studying acting in 1977, I saw Mithun Chakraborty in Mrigayaa, and it changed my perspective. His natural performance inspired me to keep things real and connect as the boy next door. For action, I looked up to Amitabh Bachchan in Sholay. His daring stunts made me want to do my own. And when it comes to dance, my ultimate inspiration was Kamal Haasan. Watching him pushed me to refine my skills and bring energy and grace to my performances.”
Akshay Kumar, the session’s moderator, praised Chiranjeevi’s humility and honesty, calling him the “true flag bearer of Telugu cinema.” His acknowledgment of fellow legends sparked a wave of appreciation across the summit audience.
The WAVES 2024 Summit continues in Mumbai until May 4, drawing top talents, creators, and decision-makers from India and beyond to shape the future of global entertainment.
