I have done a very important character in the story – Malvi Malhotra

A wholesome entertainer ‘Thiragabadarasamy’ is being made under the direction of successful director AS Ravikumar Chaudhary with young and promising hero Raj Tarun as the hero. Malvi Malhotra is playing the female lead. Sivakumar is producing the film under Suraksh Entertainment Media. The teaser and trailer songs have received positive response. The film is coming to the audience soon. In this context, heroine Malvi Malhotra shared the features of the film.

Where did your journey start?

-I’m from Himachal Pradesh. I went to Mumbai to study. I joined theatre arts there. My career started in the TV industry. Later I got a chance to do a Hindi film. Later continued to do Malayalam and Tamil films. This is my first film in Telugu. It is a pleasure to be introduced with a good entertainer like ‘Tiragabadara Sami’ in Telugu. I have done a very important character in the story.

You will be seen as a fan of Balakrishna in this movie. How is your character? How do you relate yourself with Mr. Balakrishna?
-Very interesting character. I look like a very energetic and optimistic girl. I play a key role in which leads to haywire and the story revolves around that. It also has family elements and I did a fight sequence. My character is related to Balakrishna in a way the how speaks without any filter. He speaks just what’s on his mind. My character is also like that. My character teaches women the importance of self-defence. I feel lucky that I got an opportunity to do an action sequence in the first film. I watch Balakrishna’s movies. He has a huge fan following across all industries.

What were the elements in ‘Thiragabadara Sami’ that attracted you?
-It has many elements like emotions, action, drama, romance, and fun. Raj Tarun’s character is very interesting. A character who starts as silent and becomes violent. I loved my character. I did MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) training long before when I was doing theatre, so I thoroughly enjoyed the fight sequence. My training helped me a lot during any physically strenuous activities, even when I had to lift up Raj Tarun as you can see in some posters (laughs). I always prefer a role that has some substance and value in it which this movie and this role has all of it.

What are the differences you found between theatre artists and cinema artists?
-Theatre is more down to earth. We used to clean our stage and properties ourselves and then do the plays. Theatre taught me to be down to earth and focus on my craft. We had to memorise the entire drama and say the dialogues without stumbling but when I see someone struggling to memorise a few dialogues while shooting, I felt grateful to have done theatre. And I owe a lot to the theatre for teaching me the craft. Theatre is like a school, before going and working in films.

Who do you think are better actors? Theatre artists or cinema artists?
-Not everyone has to go through learning, to go to school, some have it in their genes. Everyone has their own path. Example: Shahrukh Khan effortlessly brings everything on the table. But Amir Khan works so hard. So, it depends on person to person. Learning and graduating in school i.e., is better but not compulsory.

How is it working with a variety of South Indian languages?
My first South Indian film was a Malayalam film; that language was like a song. I found it so difficult. But I felt the Telugu language was easy. Now that I know 60–70% of Telugu, I will do my own dubbing for my next movie.

Malvi Malhotra InterviewYour favourite hero in Tollywood?
-All heroes are loved. But as a theatre artist, if I talk about the depth in the actor’s eyes, I will say Mr. Nani. He is an actor who conveys wonderful expressions and emotions with his eyes. I would love to work with him. I admire Mahesh Babu and Adivi Sesh.

What kind of films do you want to do?
-I like to work in all the genres. But I want to do roles that add value to the movie. I don’t want to do characters that just come and go. Even if it is a 20 minute role, I will do a character only if it has some crucial role in the movie.
