‘Dasara’ Movie Review

‘Dasara’ Movie Review

Review by : Amar Prakash

Cast: Nani, Keerthy Suresh, Deekshith Shetty

Director: Srikanth Odela

Music: Santosh Narayanan

Nani’s latest release at the box office has something to cheer about for various reasons. The never-before-raw character of a village youth set in the backdrop of Singareni Collieries in Telangana, the other is the way the movie has spread its wings to be called a pani-India flick from Tollywood.

Undoubtedly, the film would make its numbers at the box office given its hype on social media and large scale promotions across India.

Story

It is a story of three buddies Dharani (played by Natural Star Nani) and his mate Suri (played by Deekshith Shetty), both are nurtured in the coalmine ridden fictional village named Veerlapally. Both are alcohol addicts. Vennela, a village girl played by Keerthy Suresh, is a common buddy for both since childhood days. Dharani falls for Vennela. But the girl has a soft spot for Suri for various reasons. The power dynamics in the village take an ugly turn as it takes away the life of their close friend. How does Dharani solve this riddle amidst the chaotic atmosphere in the village? Will he ever get closer to her lady love Vennela? is the story to watch out for.

Analysys

Director Srikanth Odela has a vision of turning a real incident that happened sometime ago in his life, in his village, into a reality. When he met Nani, the Natural Star thought that it would be a compelling story on the screen. No doubt that Srikanth Odela had brought the shades from the films like ‘Rangasthalam’ where he happened to be an associate director under Sukumar. Probably, the thought might have arised that it was time to make a story that is rustic and honest.

Performances

Audiences haven’t seen Nani in this character of rugged and raw youngster from the interiors of Telangana. Mouthing the dialogues in the Telangana dialogues to portraying emotional sequences with elan, Nani has certainly won the hearts. Exemplary, career-best, outstanding,– you named it, he nailed it with perfection in every frame. ‘Mahanati’ star Keerthy Suresh gets a meaty character this time. And she looked impressive with whatever she has been designated with. The other hand, Deekshith Shetty is nothing short of a male lead in the film. He puts on an impressive performance with his craft. Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko as the village head too justified his role. Senior actor Sai Kumar and Tamil star Samuthirakani have chipped in well to fill the space.

The film has setbacks when it comes to the screenplay. The story takes its sweet time to establish the characters in the first half. Except for interval bangs and the climax and pre-climax blocks, the film might drain you because of the boredom. That’s because of the predictable plot. The popular track of the season ‘Chamkeela Angeelesi’ is a big misfit as it didn’t fit in the proper sequence of the story.

It could have been a great story if Srikanth had not added any commercial touch ups to it, thus making it mediocre altogether. Sathyan Sooryan’s camera work is something that has to be discussed when it comes to praising the film’s technical work. Especially, the night sequences, the rich looks that frames have gotten during the sunsets. Cinematography stands to be top notch. Music from Santhosh Narayanan is again a commendable aspect. He gave his best notes to uplift the mood in every frame. Again, when it comes to editing, you might think that film should have been cut further short to make the story more crisp.

‘Dasara’ is a wholesome entertainer bearing a laggy screenplay.

SARKAR RATING : 2.75 / 5
