Chiyaan Vikram’s upcoming film, Thangalaan, is generating a lot of excitement as it gears up for its worldwide release on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day. Directed by the acclaimed Pa Ranjith and produced by K E Gnanavel Raja under the Studio Green Films banner in partnership with Neelam Productions, the film promises to be a major cinematic event.
The story is about gold mining
At a recent press meet, Vikram shared his enthusiasm for the project and his deep admiration for Ranjith. His previous films have been incredible, and when he presented the story of Thangalaan to me, I was thrilled,” Vikram said. He emphasized that the film’s narrative is not confined to any one region or language but is something that will resonate globally. “The story is about gold mining, but it also touches on themes of struggle and freedom. It’s a tale that goes beyond categories.”
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields, Thangalaan draws on real historical events. Vikram’s role as a tribal leader was particularly challenging. “Thangalaan is named after a tribe, and while I had high expectations for how the character would turn out, I wanted to ensure it felt raw and authentic,” he explained. The preparation involved extensive makeup and shooting in varied weather conditions. “Despite the tough conditions, my focus was on immersing myself in the role rather than on awards. What truly matters is how the audience reacts,” Vikram added.
Vikram also took a deep dive into the world of tribes to add authenticity to his performance. This dedication to accuracy is reflected in the film’s portrayal of tribal life and historical events.
Vikram expressed admiration for Pawan Kalyan
Beyond his role, Vikram expressed admiration for Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s achievements. “His work in politics and his current role as Deputy CM is inspiring. It shows what is possible and offers hope to those of us interested in politics,” Vikram said.
Hollywood actor Daniel, who is part of the cast, praised Ranjith’s vision. “I was impressed by Ranjith’s previous work and agreed to join the project without even seeing the script,” Daniel said. He highlighted Ranjith’s innovative ideas and expressed excitement about working with Vikram. “Indian cinema is rapidly growing and could soon surpass Hollywood. If we continue to tell stories that resonate globally, we could see Indian cinema exceed Hollywood in influence,” Daniel added.
Malavika Mohanan, who plays one of the female leads, shared her thoughts on the film. “I’m grateful for the chance to showcase my acting skills in Thangalaan,” she said. Mohanan, who plays Aarti, described her role as one that will surprise audiences. “Working with Vikram was a great experience. His support helped me portray Aarti effectively,” she noted. Mohanan is also excited about making a mark in Tollywood with this film and spoke fondly of her interactions with Prabhas, who made her feel welcomed.
Parvathy Thiruvothu, another lead actress, expressed her anticipation for the film’s release. “We’ve all put in our best efforts, and now we’re eager to see how the audience responds,” she said.
