BJP Leader’s Remark on Vijay Drags Trisha Krishnan Into Tamil Nadu Poll Controversy

BJP Leader’s Remark on Vijay Drags Trisha Krishnan Into Tamil Nadu Poll Controversy

A fresh political controversy has erupted in poll-bound Tamil Nadu, further intensifying an already charged election atmosphere. Actor-turned-politician Vijay, who recently announced his political foray through his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has found himself at the centre of a storm following a controversial remark made by BJP leader Nainar Nagendran.

The issue began after Vijay stated that his party would emerge as the sole challenger to the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the upcoming Assembly elections. Responding to this claim, Nagendran mocked Vijay’s political experience, remarking that someone who “cannot even climb onto a rooftop is dreaming of climbing to heaven.”

However, the controversy escalated when the BJP leader went a step further and made a personal comment, saying Vijay should “come out of Trisha’s house” before speaking about politics. The remark, made in a light-hearted tone and followed by laughter, was widely criticised for dragging actress Trisha Krishnan into a political debate and crossing personal boundaries.

Nagendran further added that Vijay should first address his personal and family matters to gain political maturity. When questioned later, he refused to withdraw the statement and stood by his remarks, a move that only intensified the backlash.

The ruling DMK reacted sharply, with party spokesperson TKS Elangovan accusing BJP leaders of disrespecting women and lowering the quality of political discourse. He said such remarks explain why the BJP continues to face resistance in Tamil Nadu. The Indian National Congress also condemned the statement, with Tamil Nadu Congress president Selvaperunthagai calling the comment shocking and questioning the need to involve a female actor in political attacks.

Despite the criticism, Nagendran received support from within his party. BJP leader Vijayadharani defended him, alleging that the remarks were deliberately twisted by the DMK for political gain and claiming they were made “in a good sense.”

The comments were made during a political rally where Vijay strongly criticised both the BJP and the DMK, positioning himself as an alternative force in Tamil Nadu politics. With the state set to go to the polls before May, the episode highlights how personal attacks and sharp rhetoric are increasingly overshadowing policy-driven debate, raising concerns about the direction of election campaigning in the state.
