Nandamuri Kalyan Ram’s emotional blockbuster “Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi” features Lady Superstar Vijayashanti in a powerful role. Directed by Pradeep Chilukuri, the film was produced by Ashok Vardhan Muppa and Sunil Balusu under the banners of Ashoka Creations and NTR Arts. Released worldwide on April 18, it has impressed audiences across all sections and is continuing its successful run. On this occasion, Vijayashanti shared her thoughts during a media interaction.
How are you enjoying the success of Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi?
-
Greetings to all. On behalf of our team, I extend heartfelt thanks to the audience. I feel fulfilled to have done such a meaningful film in my life. After a long break, I got to play a powerful role as a cop and a mother. Whatever expectations people had of seeing “Ramulamma” Vijayashanti in a strong role — this film fulfilled them. Action was a challenge for me, but I did it, and everyone appreciated my performance. All the actors gave stellar performances, which is why the film achieved such fantastic results.

This film strongly portrayed the bond and respect between parents and children. The director handled the story perfectly. I truly feel 100% satisfied with this film. Many women called me saying the film was amazing and the mother-son emotion deeply moved them. Some couldn’t watch it yet due to exams, but they said they’re going from tomorrow. I believe the audience response will be even better from now on.
Did you feel the mother-son bond with Kalyan Ram off-screen as well?
Kalyan Babu is a really good person. We developed a great bond during the film, which is rare. He has a lot of affection for me. Sometimes I wonder if he was my son in a past life. Everything about this film just clicked.
Many are re-entering the industry, but roles seem to be written specifically for you. How does that feel?
From the beginning, my path has been unique. I’ve done a variety of roles in films like Pratighatana, Neti Bharatam, Kartavyam, Osey Ramulamma, and Mondi Mogudu Penki Pellam. I consider it a god-given gift to have portrayed such a range of characters.

For this movie too, the director had my character clearly designed from the start. People believe I’m perfect for police roles, and so the director shaped the character accordingly. I’m grateful for the love and blessings I’ve received from the audience all these years.
How was the muddy action introduction sequence that got a great response?
That scene was shot during winter. I was shivering with cold, and it was shot at night — very challenging! But I’m happy that the audience applauded that sequence. I followed a strict diet for a year and worked out continuously to prepare for this role.
You were both a glamour and an action heroine back in the day. How did you balance that?
I honestly don’t know how I did it! I acted in glamorous roles with stars like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Krishna, and Shobhan Babu, and also with actors like Chandramohan. I worked with about 60 heroes and did many experiments. Every film of mine had its own variation. Nothing was repetitive. I feel blessed. God wrote this destiny for me.
What aspect of the story attracted you when the director narrated it?
The mother-son emotion. Also, the audience wasn’t fully satisfied with my earlier action films — they seemed to expect something more. So I felt that doing an action-packed emotional film like this would satisfy fans. Director Pradeep presented it beautifully.
How did you feel when you heard the climax?
I was shocked. It felt very new. The hero’s act in the climax — I had never heard anything like that before. I wondered if the fans and audience would accept it. It was definitely an experiment, and thankfully, the audience accepted it.
What about the producers?
They are excellent producers. I never heard a “no” for anything. They provided everything needed for the film without holding back on the budget.
In the past, fans used to come in bullock carts from remote villages just to watch your films. How does that kind of love feel?
I consider it a great blessing. People used to come in bullock carts, bathe, cook, and eat at the screening locations. It was an amazing experience. Even now, today’s youth still call me “Ramulamma.” When they come to events and call me “Ramulamma Akka,” I’m surprised and deeply moved. When they say they are inspired by my daring and dashing nature, I feel very happy.
Your comments on critics at the success meet went viral. What made you say that?
I only responded to what I’ve been observing for a while. We all live and work in this industry. We must act responsibly. Criticizing a good film isn’t right. If you don’t like something, offer suggestions or share your stories, but blindly criticizing something good is not okay. That day, I spoke out because I felt it was necessary.
There are rumors you’re acting in Akhanda 2. Is that true?
I don’t know. I’m hearing that from you! (laughs)
Would you be interested in doing full-length action roles again?
If a good script comes my way, I will definitely consider it.
