The much-awaited divine action extravaganza Akhanda 2: Tandavam, featuring the God of Masses Nandamuri Balakrishna and blockbuster filmmaker Boyapati Sreenu, is gearing up for a grand worldwide release on December 5, 2025 in both 2D and 3D formats. Produced prestigiously by Ram Achanta and Gopi Achanta, the film is proudly presented by M. Tejaswini Nandamuri, with music by S. Thaman. With the teaser, trailer, and songs already creating massive hype, expectations are sky-high.
Marking the occasion, the producers opened up about the film’s journey, challenges, scale, and what audiences can look forward to.
How did the idea for Akhanda 2 begin?
Ram Achanta:
“We produced Legend with Balakrishna garu back in 2014, and it released right before elections, becoming a huge hit. We wanted to recreate that same magic again before the upcoming elections. Initially, we planned another story, but uncertainty around the election dates made us pause that idea. Instead, we decided to move ahead with Akhanda 2, which fit perfectly.”
How does it feel working again with Balakrishna? This is your first pan-India project too, right?
Gopi Achanta:
“It’s extremely exciting. Balakrishna garu and Boyapati garu together are a blockbuster combination. After delivering a hat-trick of massive hits, they are coming together again for a film with an even bigger span.
Balakrishna garu’s energy is the same as ever—if anything, it has only grown. Sitting with him itself is energizing.”
The film was shot across many unique locations, especially during Kumbh Mela. What challenges did you face?
“We shot extensively during the Kumbh Mela. Getting permissions was tough, but we managed to obtain all required approvals—including drone permissions. Every shot you see in the film was captured specifically for Akhanda 2. We did not use any stock footage. Boyapati garu worked tirelessly to capture astonishing visuals of the Kumbh scenes.”
Are you planning early premieres?
“Yes. We’ve already submitted the request letters for permissions. Once approved, we’ll announce the dates. Most likely, premieres will start from the evening of December 4 around 8–9 PM.
Ticket prices will be kept reasonable.”
Was the pan-India release planned from the start?
“Yes, from day one we intended this as a nationwide release. However, we did not alter the story just for the pan-India tag. The content itself is universal. It will connect globally.
There are countless goosebump moments—fans will get more than what they expect from the Balakrishna–Boyapati duo. We’ve seen the film; it’s extraordinary.”
“We felt the film would be spectacular in 3D. The 3D censor is scheduled for tomorrow. Both 2D and 3D versions will release simultaneously.”
This is the first time M. Tejaswini Nandamuri is presenting a film. How involved was she?
“She’s actively contributing, especially in promotions. She also wanted to take an active part in production, and Akhanda 2 felt like the perfect project to begin that involvement.”
It appears the action quotient is much higher than the first Akhanda?
“Shiva represents mass and raw power. Just like Shiva Tandavam is ferocious, the action here is equally intense. The Trishul action in the film is unlike anything attempted before.”
“We shot the entire climax in Georgia. It was originally planned in Kashmir, but due to the Pahalgam attack, permissions became an issue. So we moved to Georgia, where the temperature was in minus degrees.
While all of us were wearing layers of warm clothing, Balakrishna garu performed in a sleeveless Aghora look. Only he can pull off such intense action in that extreme cold.”

Tell us about the roles of Sanyuktha and Poorna.
“Sanyuktha doesn’t play a typical heroine role; she has a strong and crucial character. Poorna continues her role from the first film.”
How was it working with Boyapati Sreenu again?
“One of Boyapati garu’s greatest strengths is that he is open to every suggestion. If any idea benefits the project, he immediately takes a decision and implements it.”
The film revolves heavily around Sanatana Dharma. How relevant is it today?
“That is the USP of our film. It’s rooted in Sanatana Dharma, faith, and devotion. In Akhanda, we established that when children or temples are threatened, Lord Shiva himself intervenes. Akhanda 2 continues from that idea and expands the spiritual universe.”
You even screened the content for UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. What was his reaction?
“He liked it very much. He appreciated the content and called it excellent.”
Thaman’s music is receiving huge appreciation—your thoughts?
“Every song released so far has received a tremendous response. We recently released the full jukebox too. Audiences felt it could have come a bit earlier, but they loved it.
Even the background songs will mesmerize viewers. Thaman garu has taken extra care—the background score is going to be next level.”
The CG/VFX work looks impressive?
“VFX was handled by Narendra and the Matrix company. They’ve delivered outstanding work.”
“Akhanda 2 is a film you must experience, preferably in 3D. The theatrical experience will be phenomenal.”
Is there a possibility of Akhanda 3?
“There is definitely scope for another film in this universe. The possibilities are limitless if Balayya garu and Boyapati garu wish to continue. But the story we started for Akhanda 2 is complete in itself.”
About Aadi Pinisetty’s role?
“Aadi is a fantastic performer. His character has come out beautifully. He delivered 200% justice to the role.”
In how many languages is the film releasing?
“In all South Indian languages, plus Hindi.
Additionally, we’re releasing it in the Awadhi language spoken in parts of Bihar.”
When is Tyson Naidu releasing?
“Shoot is completed. The release will be in the next one or two months.”
Upcoming projects?
“We’re working on two films with new directors and new actors. A big film is also in the pipeline—we’ll reveal details soon.”
